Entry Level Head Unit Ideas

Hi All,

I'm looking for a decent entry level head unit for my girlfriend's 2001 Hyundai Sonata. She's not at all into car audio and just needs something to play cd's/mp3's (stock cassette deck). This is probobly the only upgrade her factory system will recieve.

I'm looking somewhere close to the $100 mark. I can do the install myself with a little trouble.

I don't know much about head units and would like to know what anyone thoughts are and a good e-tailer to buy from before christmas.

Thanks!

I'd go to futureshop, best buy, or wherever, and pick up a JVC. they can be had for around 100 bucks, and should even be able to do mp3..

Hi there
Please also consider replacing the front door speakers.
If you only had some money to spend, and Dont absolutely need MP3, I would suggest replacing the speakers first. Modern head units are not that bad, the stock speakers are not very good.
Something in the range of an Infinity Reference would be good. These are also readily availabe on ebay and not too expensive. I am sure some members also have similar quality speakers for sale at very good prices. There are many other brands also available. Coaxial speakers with a dome tweeter, not the cheap 2 or 3 or even 4 way types with cone tweeters

it will be kind of hard for his GF to listen to her CDs through her new speakers using a tape deck though... lol

nothing wrong with speakers that use a coned mid-tweeters imo... if they are well done... 4 way seems redundent though ?!
