This question has nothing to do with car audio but I wanted to ask anyway. I have x-box live and every time I have to use it I need to disconnect the modem from my computer and attach it to the x-box. I finally went out and bought a router for the ethernet cable so that I could connect the x-box and computer up at the same time with no interuption to my internet access. Could I simply make a "Y" adapter for the ethernet cable? It would be pretty simple to just make two wires out of one. But will this mess anyting up? The router wasnt cheap so if there is any way around it I would like to give it a try.

Thanks

Simple answer NO!

but if you want a cheaper way, install another NIC in your comp and run that to the xbox, then use some NAT software to share the internet connection, WIN2k has one built in.

NO!
better to use router, hassle free. if you use your comp as a router, you need to turn on your comp everytime you wanna play xbox.

unless your Internet Service Provider supplies you with more than 1 IP address, using a HUB or making a Y-connector will not work. The only device that will allow you to use both at the same time is a router.

You may be able to purchase a second IP from the ISP and then the hub would work fine (unsure about the home made y-connector). They're usually like 5 bucks/month.

The alternative and smartest way would be to purchase a router, and run the connection thru the router then to each the pc and xbox. The router in this case give's out it's own internal IP address's, so you're ISP doesn't know the difference and you can happily connect up to as many devices as the router has connections for.
