Question Feedback on a new system

Hey guys, I just recently bought a 1990 Nissan 300ZX that came without a head-unit or speakers. I'm looking at spending about $1000 and here's what I'm thinking I want to equip it with. I'd like to do the install myself although i don't have much experience with it... I think it'd be fun to learn. I've done a bunch of research over the last couple weeks and I just started trying to price a system out. While I like loud music, I'm not thinking of competing, and I'm a stickler for sound quality, so the cleaner the sound the better for me. I listen to lots of metal, rock, and that kind of thing. Not much rap or hip-hop. Please let me know what you think of the system design or any individual pieces and their quality:

1) CD/MP3 HU - Pioneer 680MP ($250)
2) 6.5" Component Speakers for Front - Polk MMC6500 ($225)
3) 2-Channel Amp for Fronts - Orion HP-2600 ($175) or MA M300XE ($135)
Sub-Total: $650 or $610

I'd like to buy these pieces fairly soon (next week or two) and then add:

4) 10" Sealed Sub - Ascendant Assassin ($100) or Elemental Designs 11kv.2 ($150)
5) 2-Channel or Mono Amp for Sub - Orion HP-2600, Bridged for 350W RMS ($175)
Sub-Total: $325

The Pioneer comes with wiring kit, harness, etc. I'd need an amp wiring kit for each amp I assume, I've heard to stay away from some of the cheaper kits... any recommendations there? From what I've seen I can probably use 4-guage safely with this system, is that right? Anyways, I'm by no means stuck on any of these pieces, and in fact I haven't heard any of them. I'm just going by user reviews and internet research. Is there anywhere in and around Vancouver that I can go to demo these brands? Thanks in advance for the help!

everything looks pretty good, the only thing i dont really like about it is the comps. I think you could find somthing better if you dont mind buying used. You could try finding some rainbow soundlines there 225 american so i donno how much in canadian, but there a damn good set and well worth the money.

First I want to state that I like the vehicle. Haha.

I am not a big fan of pioneer head units. That specific HU only has 2.2v preouts, I like having 5v but some people say it doesn't matter that much.

You could probably find better than the polks but I think they will get the job done for you.

The two channel amps: NOT ORION, lol, I am an orion hater cuz their customer service sucks ***. I don't know much about MA but I am pretty sure they are a good brand

Don't know much about the assassin sub but elemental designs are very good sq subs.

And again, I don't like orion so I would tell you to stay away from the amp.

I assume yer ordering from cardomain? Did you check out any other stores because you can get some good prices on equipment.

The Pioneer 6800MP has 2.2v preouts like you said, but the 680MP is the 'premier' version which has 4V preouts. At least according to Pioneer.

Do you have any suggestions for what might be better?

Thanks for the info. My prices are mostly from Sonic Electronix. I've checked out a few stores and they seem to be the best (especially for the Polks).

forgot to add very very nice car. Im lookin into buying one as soon as my eclipse sells.

And on the sub, id go with the assasain over the 11kv2, and for amps if you mind buying used you can find a good deal.

Well if you dont mind going used you do alot better on every peice in your system if your patient.

Are you talking about the Orion amps?

Thanks, its a VG30DETT 5 speed. It's so much fun to drive and once those turbos spool up, wow.

I've read up a little more on 6.5" components, and everyone around here seems to be a fan of CDT. Are the CDT EF-61FGs that are $199 at woofersetc a good choice? Please keep in mind I'm looking for something with really tight mid-bass for the double-bass drumming in a lot of the metal I listen to. Would the Rainbow SLC265s be even better? Man there's just so much out there and I really have no idea where to go to listen to any of them. Tough decisions. Thanks in advance guys.

The rainbows would ALOT better, its jus easier to find cdt than rainbow. IMO cdt tweets are very sharp and harsh. Even there soft dome came out harsh to me. Maybe i jus have sensitive ears. But i no like cdt
