First Build, Help Please
 

I am going to do a build for a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. I am going to put a single Sundown SA12 under the rear seat. I am going to have a do a custom box build, which I have all of the dimensions for. I plan to use 5/8 MDF. The sub will be downfiring with a 1" lip on the bottom of the box to keep the face of the SA12 off of the floor. I am going to have to use 2" seat spacers for space. I have a few questions which I would love to get answered as they are holding me back greatly. I will be as specific as possible to what I am trying to ask.

1. What size should my port be? I will attach a crude picture of the dimensions of the front face of the box.

2. Should I buy a 2 or 4 DVC SA12, if I run only a single sub?

3. With #2 answered, which amp should I run? I would like to run 1200 watts and still keep the amp cool, of course.

4. What components would you recommend for a decent price? I would prefer to stay away from an external amp, I would just like to power them off of my head unit. I am open to ideas for a good price, though. I have two 6.5" in the front and two 4x6 in the rear.

dual 2 ohm speaker would allow you to run either 1 or 4 ohm , were as a dual 4 would be 2 ohm , it will come down to what your amp is capable of doing , if your amps 1 ohm stable I would suggest the dual 2 for optimum performance , so that being said look for a 1200 at 1 ohm amp , otherwise if you went with a dual 4 you would need 1200 at 2 ohm amp



as for the box the one thing you need to research is will that sub fit the specs of the space you have , check to see if youll have enough depth to properlly mount , and still have enough port area


i see alot of guys run the super slim subs that allows them to still keep the back seat , and allows for enough port area

Thanks! I am going to have 7" mounting depth for the box, and the sub needs 6.5", so I'll be cutting it close. I will still have enough port area, I just won't be able to channel the port behind the sub. That is alright, correct?

Another question.. Is running 1200 watts at 1 ohm on a 1200 watt amp going to cause the amp to get hot at all? I remember hearing something like that, and I would love for that question to be cleared up as it would make it much easier for me to choose my amp. Thanks again!

box should be fine ive seen alot of guys do that with good results , especially with 1 sub that will free up space inside the enclosure that will allow airflow vrs having 2 subs in a confined space

as for the amp I would do the big 3 under the hood , possibly upgrade the battery under the hood that will allow you to run at optimum performance without any issues , 4 gauge would be suitable for this application

Do you have any specific suggestions on the battery?

I was looking for 0 gauge just to be comfortable. What specific amp would you suggest so that I can get a steady 1200 watts @ 1 ohm without any heating or other problems?

I would suggest an xs power d 3400 fits most oem aplications great for the price , sonic has free shipping on their batterys to for the US

Judging from your box design it looks like 2 8"s would be a better fit for the airspace.

The box design is only posted for the air space I have to work with. My design is going to be entirely different, and i will have enough air space to run at least a single 12.
