First serious install

Hey everybody
Just created my account, so hello to everyone, hope to see ya around
I've got an 05 Cav Coupe and just installed the Sony CDX-GT610Ui deck last weekend, everything's great. I thought I'd be able to hold myself back, but after that install I've got "the itch"; and no, I'm not talking about scabies.

I went over to my parents' place and picked up a pair of Rockford Power 5x7s that I purchased back in 2004. I've only used them for maybe 5 hours, after hurriedly popping out the stock speakers in my 1983 Celebrity.

Now, this car's rear speakers are 6x9s, and my friend is making me a couple mounting plates so I can use the 5x7s. I want to go and grab a sub and an amp, but the only place I can afford to do so is at BestBuy (I've got $460 left on my in-store credit card). I was perusing their website and found a JBL 12" Subwoofer (GTO1202D) and a JBL GTO301.1II 300 watt Mono amp to pair it with. Would this be a good match? The sub's nominal wattage is 300w, and the amp's full range wattage is 294w at 2ohm. Seems like a good choice to me, but I've never had to decide before... Any help would be appreciated

Thats is a nice match most definately, match sure its the dual 4 ohm version to achive maximum performance from that amp. BTW welcome to CCA.

Yup, get the dual 4 ohm model and wire it down to 2 ohm and you should be bumpin nicely.

dual 4 ohm as in the 2 channel JBL amp? because that's what I ended up getting - with the 600w 10"pioneer woofer (TS-W251R)

I also went with JBL 4x6's, but ended up finding a better set of Clarion's for cheaper -- by $30. So I'm gonna pull these speakers out tomorrow morning and run down and grab my new ones :)
