First Setup, one JBL GTO
ATM i have stock stereo in my car, i want to add just one sub, and i already purchased a JBL GTO 12" SVC 4 ohm, the sub has 1400w and 365 RMS power ratings. here it is if you want to check,

the only thing im confused about is an amp, these are some ive been looking at,

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18304_SPL-GRLA-1250-2-GRLA1250-2.html
so what do i need? would getting one with higher peak and RMS hurt my sub? i know how to wire up the 2 channel for 4 ohm bridged, i just dont know what i need.
Thanks for all the help guys,
-Nick

after some googling, it appears none of the amps i choose are actually as good as they state they are, and some even got bad reveiws.... i am mostly confused, what amp will power my sub! lets say i have about 150$ to spend
any decent brand name amp delivering 300-450 watts rms will work fine. Hifonics, Soundstream, Alpine, kenwood, pioneer, RF or any other decent brand in your price range. If you're willing to buy used you can get some nice amps in the for sale section from time to time that are much more than 150.00 new, and will offer excellent performance. This one seems the best bang for the buck on sonic, 475 watts rms x 1..even if it's a little over rated (which some were, but not by much..most were just short of rated in many cases...ie. 1200 watts was closer to 1100, 500 was 440..etc.. their new amps are cea rated so that should change). Anyway, it will deliver more than enough for your sub to perform at it's maximum ability.

or these ones (the MTX is the best brand of the bunch as far as meeting rated power is concerned, but I've used the others with excellent results and would have no problem using them again):

if you're comfortable shopping on ebay most of these can be found for even better prices on there. Also, you can look for a 2 channel amp that bridges to the power you want at 4ohms as most 2 channels are stable at 4 ohms in bridge mode like this kenwood which is in your price range and is cea rated to 500 watts rms at 4ohms (this is an even better bang for th buck than the Hifonics above):

IT APPEARS THE MORE I LOOK THE BETTER DEALS I FIND, SO MY SUGGESTION IS TO SHOP..THIS ONE IS EVEN A BETTER DEAL THAN THE PREVIOUS KENWOOD, 800 RMS AT 4OHMS CEA RATED, FOR $165.00 FROM A REPUTABLE ONLINE DEALER..THAT'S DAMN GOOD!!!

so what you guys are saying, is if i get the SVC 4 sub, any amp that puts out over 365RMS @ 4ohms will do the job? and having something like 600RMS wont hurt the sub or anything?
as you can tell im really new, thanks for the help

it's not that the 600 watts can't hurt your sub, it certainly can. The secret to not overdriving your sub is to mount it in a proper box, adjust the gains on the amp properly, and be careful with the volume ****. Many guys on here have run 1.5-2x the rms power to their sub for years and years with no problems at all ( I had a 1200 watt amp running a single type r rated at 500 watts for years). With extra power you can keep the gains low on the amp, and keep the amp working relatively easily instead of maxing out.
