Fuse to amp
Hey everybody!
Just a question regarding the fuse that goes from battery --> amp. I've upgraded my power supply, now im just trying to get everything sorted out as far as fuses. I already have my fuse from my front battery to back batteries. The other fuse I'm questioning is the fuse from the batteries in the trunk to my amp. I'll be using roughly 4000wrms @ 0.5 daily. I was told by the manufacturer of the amp to use a 400 amp fuse, if i'll be burping i should use a 500 amp fuse(s). Now my question is, I cant find a fuse holder + fuse(s) that are rated so high except the KnuKoncept model that holds 3 mini-ANL fuses. Any input on the situation? I'd like to run a fuse since its comforting :P The KnuKonceptz fuse holder is out of stock and only coming in at the end of April.. Thanks!! Andrew |
You can find 500amp ANL fuses, Google it. Or look in the yellow pages for industrial electrical supply houses, they may have them: EB Horsman, eecol, etc.

You mean fuses right? As in one at each end of that cable? Having a fuse at just one end doesn't protect the wire. I know ANL fuses exist, however I can't find a fuse holder rated for that current. Many of them say MAX 300 amps or so. I heard that having a fuse holder that holds 2 ANL fuses would lessen the stress on the fuse however I can't find a few holder to these specs.. Thanks! |

I'm surprised a holder would have a maximum rating. It's not carrying the current. All it has to have is decent isolation from the chassis and that's voltage related.
Stinger, Rockford, and Tsunami all make or did make dual ANL fuse holders. Others might have too but I know these brands did. Most of them are a single zero on one side and dual 4ga or dual zero ga on the other side. For your purposes, just use it 'backwards' and connect two leads to the battery and the single out to the amp. |
i've never seen a 500 amp ANL fuse.
