GM Harness or Deck Harness? Confused

My old RF deck went caput in my 95 Impala. I'm in the process of buying an Alpine Deck.

Now, I've removed my deck and left behind all the wire that went from it, including the main clip that clipped into the back of the old deck.

So if I'm buying a lightly replacement deck of a different make, what do I need to make it work?

Do I need to cut out the wires that belonged to the previous deck up to the clip as it's common only to that specific RF deck? Will that then leave me the bare wire I need to hook the new deck up with it's wiring belonging to it? Will I need to buy anything new?

If I'm looking to buy a used deck, should I make sure it has the metal sleeve, box/cage and wiring belonging to that unit?

Your help would be appreciated.

you need to cut the old clip out from teh RF deck, and you'll have to attach the new one in. Make sure teh used one has the wiring, if it doesn't chances are its stolen. And even if it isn't its hard to get replacment wiring harnesses from companies because they think its stolen to :P. Get teh cage it came with as well different brands have different anchor points for releasing from the dash

btw:remember to cut the old plug back enough so you can still use it on the old deck in a new application

Just unplug the current deck from the factory plug, then buy a harness for your car. They are inexpensive, less than $20.00 iirc. Even Canadian Tire sells some harnesses, made by Scorshe(sp?).

Look for GM, Alpine, then look at the back of the pack for fitment giude.

So, then you sit down at your bench and wire the deck bare wires ino your new harness (both the deck and the harness will probably come with wiring diagrams, plus you can find them online) then simply go plug it into your cars harness when done.

Its a real nice (cheap) clean way to do it.

Cheers

EDIT: The same company (Scorshe) makes trim/ mounting panels for specific cars as well, again fairly cheap, 20 bucks maybe.
