Good entry level system
 

Hello there folks, not too privy on sound staging or best brands etc but I have been working in the electronics industry... putting background aside I would like to upgrade the stock sound system in my new 2011 Honda Civic SE. I think from the information I found, the car takes 6.5 inch speakers all around but dept could be an issue for speakers in the door panels. My idea was to run speaker wire to the door panels in case I wish to amp the speakers later, but for now they would run from an after market deck. The navi systems look great but beyond my price point for a head unit... was looking at probably a Pioneer HU.

I am not looking for competition grade, but something that sounds good and has some depth to it. Overall good system.. Currently I have a Infinity reference 10" sub and a MTX amp, don't think I need much more from the BASS department but would like to have some better sound from the Mid and High Range... the factory system is too punchy and is very flat sounding no crisp highs...

Your suggestions on speakers would be greatly appreciated.

Go demo whatever you can at local shops. Almost anything will sound better than stock Everybody likes different speakers. Everybody will tell u what's best. Only your ears know the truth. If you're looking to amplify just make sure they'll take the power. (most speakers will work fine on most amps.) unless majorly over or underpowered.

I don't really know where around here would have MA, I have been looking to purchase from Crutchfield I think at the end of the day... hate retail markup prices heh... So far I see Alpine pushed often, I mean heck when I had my Infinity reference in my last car I was content with the augment of my subwoofer... I just despise how punchy and flat the stock is... it makes me really sad.

Don't confuse Massive Audio with MA audio. Lol

Do some panel deadening when your in there and seal the inner door panel from the door cavity to prevent speaker back wave distortion. The moe solid the panel that the speaker is mounted to, the cleaner/tighter it'll sound.

Dont think there is a Massive Audio retailer near me... any online stores that sell the product?

Their online store sells and ships. Some of their stuff looks a lot like CDTs. CDT used to engineer for other company's. I'm wondering if it is an offshoot or a combined engineering exercise. Not many retailers in Canada

Looking online some say to avoid drilling into cars metal you can purchase the SAHR6 by scorche... crutchfield keeps indicating that 6.5 will only work on front by everyone else uses them all around... guessing its because there is a spacer needed to clear the bars in the trunk

it's just one brand...go to woofersetc. and look at 6.5" components, they have a large selection of brands and price ranges. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell you what to get as everyone's opinion is different...but, we can probably help to point you in a general direction. What type of music do you listen to mostly? Do you like your highs brighter (more sizzle and sparkling) or more mellow (clean and clear, but less sparkling)? Are you looking to get components (2 or more separate speakers..tweeters, midrange) or co-axials (all the speakers in one frame.. which are easier to install and can sound great but are typically inferior to components in quality)? What's your budget?

I was looking at getting components however that would require and additional amp and some modifications to stock tweeter grills.. I was looking at spending approx 150-180 per pair of speakers however I wouldn't be against components in the front and just regular in the back... I mostly listen to metal and R&B.... club music for the ladies when there in the car. I would like to replace the front and back 6.5's but the rear speakers won't really need much bass since it will be drowned by the subwoofer in the rear...
