Heres the thing, I am in the market for an mp3 car player, but a good one is real bucks, and to be honest, I would rather not spend a million dollars on a car stereo. I know, I know...im in the wrong forum then...I used to be huge into car stereo, but not so much anymore...now I am more into cars themselves.
Alright, here is the ideal...anyone thing about getting a portable mp3/video player, like the RCA Lyra 2780, and connecting it directly to an amp...would this work? You could connect it via audio rca's. Has anyone done this before...think it would work? How do you think it would sound. Would love some input from you guys.

Thanks in advance

yes it will work....

it would work fine, just got to figure out a way to keep it charged all the time, so it doesnt die mid roadtrip, what kind of batteries does it take , can it play while it charges, can you even charge it at all. its possible but could be a hassle bring it with you to the house to keep it charged, unless your going to do it anyways if you put new songs on it every day...

How do you think it will sound? Is it worth the hassel? Should I just get an mp3 deck and thats it?

CasinoGreek 09-02-2004 08:56 PM

i have my mp3 player hooked up to the aux in on my deck, it does sound bad but it doesnt sound good either, depends on the quality of the song itself...that and to get the best quality you have to find the right level of volume on the mp3 player, almost like a 4v output i guess....unless that model of rca has a car out like some portable cd players have. how do you plan on conrolling the mp3 player....running a rca from the amp to the center consol so you can hold the mp3 player in your hand?......if your going to use the mp3 player outside of the car, like when you workout or whatever you do, you might want to think about it, if its going to be used exclusivly in your car just pick up a deck

Why bother with mp3's?

Just use an Ipod and copy the files as .wav files. Much better sound quality.

You see, I was thinking of not getting a head unit at all. I am trying to find a good mp3 head unit, but they are still pretty expensive...for a good one that is. Finding one used is not easy also. I have a crap cd player in my car now...thinking I might just keep that till something good comes around...dont know what to do?

If you like mp3s, your not too worried about sound anyway. It will work fine....

Buddy....

MP3 players start from the $250 mark and up -- instead of hooking up a "frankenstero" go to a shop and buy a deck.
