ground and positive
hey guys i just wanted to share my experience
i recently upgraded from mrd-m605(600W@2ohm) to mrd-m1005(1000W@2ohm) running 2x10inch alpine type R's (300WRMS) once i installed the new amp i didnt get much increase in performance and i didnt understand why. my lights would flicker and voltage would drop down to 11.5V WITH a 2farad cap. That kind of upset me so i went over my wires and nioticed that my ground and positive were way longer then needed to be and only 8gage i put in way shorter 4gage wire for ground AND positive and holy crap its so loud now i had no idea that wires matter that much i didnt get a chance to test it 100% yet to see what my voltage goes down to since i blew a fuse right after by beign stupid lol but i will after work once I stop at AudioVideo :D :D |
it all comes down to the weakest link with this hobby... if your amp can't get the power it needs, it can't make the power you need / want it to. glad it worked out for you, I had a small 8 AWG kit in when I got my car, and quickly went right onto 0 AWG so that I would always be covered to the extent of what the max I would ever run in the car would be...

you guys talk as if a 2 or 3db gain is nothing. Trust me when I tell you this when you're up in the 150's a gain of 2 or 3db's is a miracle. I hit 145 with 2 jl w6 12' in a ported box off of 100rms and jl's are NOT spl subs. Trust me when I tell you that 2 to 3dbs is i very big jump for anyone. Ask the the big guys like prolifik, lessy, etc and they'll tell ya the same thing.

yeah dude
im not super noob but i dont have experience listening to competition subs and systems so the performance i got was major i cant wait to do 3 wire upgrade see what that does. also quick question. some cars have rubber strips from the chassy going and touching the road while you are driving is that something worth doing? |

is that something worth doing? I always thought those were to combat road sickness! |
Well if you've ever been shocked getting in or out of your car I'd recommend getting one, as I believe they are there to ground the car so that you don't.
|
yeah i do get shocked (now that i got 400W extra in the circuit) so i shall get thouse thingies + 3 wire upgrade
any1 know the correct name for thouse devices? |
Ford Fusion amp install
I was having the same problem and try that but i have the same problem still, where did you ground your wire? thanks...
|
. . . .
|
ok so they attach to the frame, and drag on the road to ground the car?
how is that any better than the 4 big rubber tires you have rolling down the road. Mark |
I dont think there made from rubber, maybye some kind os metal weaved stuff Like a ground strap.
We all know electricity dosent travel thru rubber right? lol |

I don't think that a dc setup should cause you to get shocked. A dc circuit is a closed circuit in that the earth is not part of the set up. I'm not sure why you would be getting shocked by adding more power to your system. Power in your amp should equal power out (minus heat dissipation and other losses). Static shock is cause by an imbalance of electrons and the sudden grounding out of those displaced electrons from what I understand. If you are getting a static problem, I don't think that it is because of your stereo but I might be off in left field...:dunno:

I think its caused by cheap running shoes lol
