GTI stock speaker replacement
 

Hi,
I have a 2011 GTI. I would like to replace the stock speakers with more efficient and better quality speakers. I do not want to replace the HU nor install and Amp.

The stock set up are components. If I were to buy aftermarket components, would it be a simple swap? What about the crossover? Would the stock crossover work with the aftermarket tweeter and woofer?

Thanks for any help with this.

Any thoughts to steer me in the right direction?

Hey Jazz. As long as the woofer and tweeters are the same size as the outgoing speakers, then it should be a simple swap. I'm not sure you're going to get a big improvement in sound quality by switching those speakers out without changing the head-unit, or adding an amp. You may actually see a bigger improvement by replacing the head-unit, as it will have more power output.
Is there a reason you're not wanting to install an amp?
Most likely, the crossover that would come with a better set of components would allow for some adjustments - i.e. you may be able to increase the filter strength. The OEM crossover is probably non-adjustable, so you might not get the most out of the new speakers if you decide to keep the OEM crossover.

Doing a quick search, it shows that 6.5" speakers will fit. I'm not familiar with the GTI, but if it has 5.25" stock, and you upsize, that will make a big difference.

I did a complete install on my Corrado, but i would like to keep the GTI as stock as possible. I really do not want to start tearing out panels and lifting the carpet on this car. I understand that the lack of power from the stock HU will limit speakers, that is why i want to find a pair that are VERY efficient.

Unless you get very lucky in finding a good sounding efficient speaker, you will probably not realize any improvement by changing out the speakers. It used to be the basic way to get better sound but not anymore.

You are better off adding an amplifier.

It depends on what driver that refers to but no that is not particularly high for a midrange really.
