had an idea.... type r 10....

ok, i know i should have done this before i decided to drop the cash on a sub and amp... but lately ive been doing some homework, trying to find a sub that would be perfect for me.

thought id check out alpine type r's. found that the 10" would be ideal for my amp, and amount of space i have to work with.

my only question is... how would it compare to my RE SX12? the 12 is in an undersized sealed box...and rather underpowered. but if i put the R 10 in the same box, i'd have room left over to port it... and enough power to run with the factory specs of 500w rms.

think i'd be happier with that? i dont listen to rap... mostly industrial rock...

opinions are great...

I havent heard an SX, but I'd hazard a guess that the RE SX would put the Alpine Type R to shame...

^^not in the wrong box without the right power! Sub performance is all in the install. I've had cheap, low powered subs kick *** in the right enclosure and properly powered. Type R's are very good subs, if properly set up. They handle a lot of power, and sound very good with many different types of music.

Well, in a smaller box the SX would likely hit tighter, but not as hard... I dont know the WRMS of the SX tho, what is it?

its 1000 rms, 2000 max. my amp puts out 500 rms, 900 max, at 2 ohms.

this isn't directly answering your questions, but it may indirectly help.

I had two 12" 03 type r's in a ported box, running off 800rms.

Now i've got a 12" RE XXX, again in a large ported box to make up for a lack of power (1200rms).

All in all, the 12" XXX is tighter sounding....but SPL wise...they were pretty close, XXX seems to be tuned to a bit different range, so it hits different notes better...but all in all, they're pretty close. I'd give the XXX maybe the sligtest slightest slightest hair if anyghing at all on SPL
