The hate on Bose
Hey folks.
There's all this talk against Bose and such. I agree, their product really isn't as stellar as the money you put out for it.
I just want to hear other people's reasons. Dukk, I want you to elaborate on your reasons, please. As false audio God, I need to hear your input. Everyone else is more than welcome to tell their pros/cons about Bose.
When I meet up with a Die-hard Bose fanatic, I want to be able to back up my "Bose actually sucks" statements when in dispute and be able to knock him down.

the simplest way to knock down bose is to be able to A/B them with any other speaker you got. there has been no case in my 14yrs selling that anybody has ever chosen to go with the bose over anything else. even audio research has beat them head to head.
no highs no lows it must be bose!

When was the last time that you can remember, Mr. Schnozola, that you can remember a car audio manufacturer that sells paper cone speakers at way stupid high excessive markup prices. Anyone ever taken apart a newer Vette only to discover the rear speaker cabinets were full of water and shorted out the Bose amp and rotted the speaker cone, Bose at it's best there boys. You should have seen the look on the customers face with litre after litre after litre of water was removed from this "new" car.
Bose = throw it away, far away, drive over it until no resemblence of the brand can be identified and to quote you Dereck, "burn and bury the ashes".

They use cheap paper cone drivers (not that the use of paper means it's cheap as some very nice sounding speakers use paper, but thin, untreated paper is the sign of a cheapo driver) of marginal construction, they rely very heavily on signal processing to get their little speakers to produce the 'bass' and 'direct/reflected' sound that apparently impresses people. As I understand, their bass modules use a heavily boosted signal around 50 Hz and then a drastic xover slope just below the tuning frequency so their tiny 'subs' don't freak out.
It's amazing that they have such a respected rep among the general community when people with just a little education about the product know how relatively inferior it is. Maybe at some point Bose was decent?

My parents do have a set of AM5's at home, from back in tha day.
They are sadly lacking in midbass as you can immagine since there is only a tiny little paper cone for the cubes. The sub is alright, but lacks the low end response it should have.
They're barely acceptable to me, but fine for the 'rents who only listen to Kenny G.
Given that they only paid like $300 for them (employee discount) they are ok for the money.

As mentioned - simply A/B any Bose to any full range tower and the smile will fade from the proud Bose owner.
Every Bose owner, when backed into a corner, will dredge up the "legendary" 901 set. I take that opportunity to reflect upon why such an "amazing" set of speakers would need to be sold along with a dedicated equalizer...
Bose is a marketing company that happens to market speakers. They do a good job of marketing.
lol - the first time the subject came up at work (I had been here just a couple days) my boss proudly told me he owned some Bose. My response was, "I'm sorry." lol - still working here
