Guys...

I am currently debating between the following:

1. Replacing my head unit (currently Eclipse 5301 - top of the line 10 years ago) with either an Eclipse or Alpine unit that has EQ/X-over/Time Alignment capabilities. I will get a newer CD player and a lot of processing that I don't have now, but I will not get as much as if I go with Option 3.

OR

2. Adding the Alpine PXA-H700 or 701 (2004 model) to my current Eclipse unit. I will get full control but will have mismatched units (cosmetically) and the system MAY suffer from using a 10-year old deck.

OR

3. Replacing my current Eclipse head unit with BOTH a new Alpine CD player AND the Alpine PXA-H700 or 701. Obviously, I will get much more control over the system, however, popular opinion seems to be that I will sacrifice sound quality. It will also have a lower output voltage.

Thoughts...

What are you trying to achieve?

I want a very good sounding system that is also loud. I am not competing, either for SQ or SPL. By very good sounding system, I mean good imaging, staging, detail. By loud, I mean around 140 db.

The rest of the system is:
- Rockford 850 amp driving Image Dynamics CD1-Pro horns and ID 6.5s in the front
- Rockford 1500bd amp driving 2 12-inch ID subs.

Hope that helps.

Well an Eclipse dealer will speak up and say, pick up the CD8443 and CD8053 while they are on sale, they both will do what you need them to and have powered numerous sytems with dual 12" subs to over 140db with sq to match.
