is your amp supposed to have more or less watts than your sub?

say i got an alpine type r which the nominal is 300 and the max is 1000, should a 300-400w amp do it and pound?

also depends on what you consider "pound", to me 130 is pounding, to someone like Yuli that's laughable and barely knocking
