Head units?? XM?? Steering Control??

I was at future shop today looking for a headunit for my 2006 tacoma. I want to replace the stock unit with a unit that will work with my ipod. When i asked about units that said satellite radio ready they said that they still needed the receiver, so it really makes no sense. Also when I asked about conecting to the steering wheel control they said you needed to pay 160 dollars to install it.
My questions are:
1. Can you buy a head unit that is XM ready and doesn't need the XM receiver?
2. Can you buy a head unit that will connect to the factory steering wheel controls that doesnt need a module to install it?
3. Also is their any head units that do the first two things, and has an ipod hookup?

Any advise is much appreciated

Thanks

why not buy the adaptor to make your ipod work with your stock deck?

I know it would be possible to buy an adapter, at what price i dont know, but I was also hoping to integrate the XM into the unit

only unit that comes to mind is the alpine cda-9820XM from a couple of years ago, but you're out of luck in the steering wheel control department, and you have to get the kca 420i adaptor for the ipod (about 60-100.00). It does have an XM receiver built in though. You're pretty much out of luck in finding one unit that does all those things internally. The market for such an animal is very small as most people don't need or want all that...like me.

OK so it looks like an integrated XM receiver is out of the picture, but what about the steering wheel controls. Future shop said that no units come with it and that they can put it in for 160$. They didn't say they'd sell me the part or anything. I found it strange that the market would have nothing for those with newer model vehicals looking to boost the system. I have a good handle on installing and have done it many times, and I wanted to forgo the hefty future shop install fees, but the guy said the only way you can get your steering wheel controls to work is to have them install it, which seemed bogus to me.

Any suggestions???

-Please no excuse replies from future shop workers!!

my clarion deck has the stearing weel plugin and the ipod is just an extra wire to plug your ipod to it plus it has usb and sirius radio xm sucks lol

no there should be a PAC SWI JACK module to allow the integration of compatible head units with your vehicle. The head unit has to be steering wheel remote ready, and you need this:

aaaahhhh thats what it is lol o well dont need it anyway looks like more trouble than anything else to me

So i see the module is the only way to connect to your steering wheel controls. I've been looking at something like the Clarion MAX385VD. I think it would be really cool to get a double din touch screen, but what would you recomend if I wanted ipod, steering wheel control, and also an easy way to hook my XM receiver to it?

I'm an Alpine guy, so check this out:

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - IVA-W205

has one cable ipod high speed hook up, is steering remote ready and XM ready, with double din screen with pulse touch...which, is really cool, it actually feels like you're clicking buttons.
