Headunit Amplifier 40W x 4 VS. 50W x 4
 

Is there a big difference between 50W x 4 and 40W x 4? I know that's peak power. Is there a big difference? Looking at a headunit that I love, but the one I have now is a 50W x 4, and the one I want is 40W x 4.

What is the RMS output for each unit? At that low a wattage, I doubt you'd notice much of a difference in volume. The unit with the higher RMS output might create tighter mid-bass, as the extra power can better control your speakers. What else, if anything, have you upgraded in your setup? If you buy decent aftermarket speakers, and a 2 channel amp, you'll have put your money towards something where you'll actually hear a difference.

Realistically you are only going to get at the very most 10-13 watts from any head unit. Laws of physics say that is it. IMO the absolute last thing to consider when buying one is the wattage of its amp. In fact if you look all the high end head units have the option of shutting the internal amp off. Like Tragic asked give us a little more info on the rest of the setup. Car, amps, speakers, what head units, etc. Bottom line when buying a HU get the one you can afford with the features you want/need. I think if you are just going to run speakers of the deck anyways why change from factory in the first place. Unless this is the start of a planned upgrade of the whole system, then it is the place to start. Put some more info up and we can see.

Ok I don't really think you are ever going to notice the difference between the 2. If they sound okay to you with the Pioneer they are probably going to sound just as good with the Blau. Why not just get a cheaper 4ch amp and power them up? That is going to make more difference to the volume and quality of the sound than any head unit will. Just my $0.02

If I were you, I'd run the front components off that amp. Bridge the right and left channels to get 100W x 2 at 4 ohms. These speakers will sound infinitely more rich with that much more power driving them.
That 6W0, has an RMS of only 75W. You'd need to buy a small amp to power it, since you'd be using the 4 channel you have to run the fronts. Pioneer has the GM-3300T, which'll do 150W x 1 into 4 ohm, bridged.
I'm not too clear on the impedance of that 6" woofer, but this amp will also do 75W x 2 into 2 ohm... If that sub can be wired for a 2 ohm load, you could get a second one, and give each woofer their exact RMS.
