Help with 6 x 9's
 

I have a 1992 BMW 325i.

Plans include keeping the stock 3 way component system up front powered by the factory amp, and throwing a set of 6x9's in the rear. The 6 x 9's will be adapted to fit, and are wanted for more bass output. I was looking into Tang Band 6 x 9 subs, but then I thought about the rear passengers and how they would have no rear stage.


What should I look for in a 6 x 9 for good bass response? High Xmax? I will most likely be powering by a Kicker ZR240 amp.


Second question, in my past audio installs I have found 6x9's to always overpower the front stage. Is there a way to soften the higher frequencies with the 6x9's, but still keep the high output of the lower frequencies? Maybe a type of capacitor?

This is a budget install, and I don't want to deal with enclosures in the truck for a real subwoofer. As you can tell by the equipment being used, this does not have to sound stellar, just decent enough for me.

i would not use 6x9 back there.... first your going to have a hell of a time to get them to mount in the trunk. i would sugest using a small sub and and keeping the factory speakers in place.

Mounting them in not a problem. A small sub is.

ok.... and y is that ? and there is no such thing as rear stage its rear fill.....
so if you think of it that way then doing what your sugesting would work pretty well ...... but i still curious on y you cant install a small sub and delete the rear speakers ? I do own a shop and i also own a 89 325 cabrio that has dual 8" and you cant tell there in there and no rear speakkers and it stages very well and has great imaging

Having a small sub or two in the rear is a problem for one and a half reasons.

1)I don't want an enclosure in the back, I could make something custom as I have done in the past, but I no longer have the room or tools to do so.

1.5) If I delete the rear speakers and put a sub in the trunk, I could have just put 6x9 woofers in place(Infinite Baffle type setup). The rear passenger is still not going to get any vocals.


6x9 adaptor plates have been made to adapt them into the rear shelf.

I know this setup does not make sense in the eyes of a car audio purist, but it will be fairly simple and cheap. My expectations are not super high.


Basically all I want to know is when looking into a set of 6x9's, what should I be looking for, for maximum low frequency output.
Secondly, is there a way to quiet down the higher freqency of these said speakers, as they will be overpowering the front stage(Especially since powered by a higher power amplifier)
