HELP!! buddy has a probelm...

Algiht by buddy had his system for about 1 year now and he just started having problems with it, his system was installed by a local Vision's shop so it was installed right... i think.

Anyway, he had a Alpine type S 1242D so it's a dual 4 ohm, he still has the amp and it's the kicker ZX300.1 (2007 modle) so it was hooked up to run at 2 ohms, one day he was driving and he smelt something and thought it was something else, kept driving and playing the sub and amp and before he knew it his sub was blowen and there was no sound coming out of it. then i tols him to get a Rockford Fosgate P2D412 considering that the amp is over powering the sub a little bit, i hooked it up and a week later he said he could smell it again. i have no idea what it is.

PLEASE HELP, any info is very much appreciated, thanks.
Bryce.

did the shop set his gains on the amp? where is the gain set? i think the gains are too high and he's clipping the amp.

Check the loudness and bass settings on the deck as well. If the gains were set by Visions and then your friend decided to dial in more bass he could be clipping the signal that way.

umm he said the gain is at 10? and it goes up to 11? not to sure if thats right and i don't really know much about these amps, and yes Vision's had set the gain and all the other stuff on the amp, i'll have to ask him if he turned up the bass or not. another thing he said was that the bass on his amp was turnned up all the way when they tuned it for him. Thanx for all the advice

I'd be guessing the Gain is way too high. :) I think I'm only at around 6 on my KX400.1 with 2x AW1205's rated for 1000w RMS each @ 4ohms.

Thanks man. Thats what everyone has been saying haha, and he said he booked his car in the go to Vision's in about a week and a half but i wonlden't mind fixing this problem for him a little earlyer, and got any idea what the gain should be @ 2 ohms?

Just play with it.. but turn it down :P

turn the bass boost on the amp off as well and set the gains correctly.
