Help coming up with stealth design for 2002 Pathfinder
 

So, I'm working on installing a subwoofer in a 2002 pathfinder. I'd like to incorporate the passenger side rear cargo panel into it. Located there is a storage bin about 9"X9"X5", which has a removable bottom, meaning the area could be expanded. The inside of the bin could also be cut out to make some more room.

My plan is to fit a 8" or 10" sub in there. I'm not going for SPL, just something to fill out my low end.

I have a 4 channel amp, with 200W RMS still avaliable that I'd like to use.

So far I am looking at a 10" Exile Xtec 10 sub to install in there considering it's small box requirements.

The main purpose of this goal is to achieve good SQ, without sacrificing cargo space, and still remaining stealth. I'd be willing to build a custom MDF enclosure, and make an attempt at a fiberglass one.

Suggestions related to ANYTHING would be appreciated, thank you so much.

what was done in thoes photos is ok......... the main issue is the face there is no controll on enclosure size all that was done is a baffle board was installed where the pocket was, and the cotton batting was used to make the back end of the enclosure, now to do it properly and to get the right dimensions i would make the baffle board then, fiberglass the interior side of the enclosure to ensure a proper fit and a proper size and air tight. the sub or choice would be a slim mount pioneer or jl. they both use a very small enclosure size thats sealed. have fun !

A slim mount sub would be perfect for applications like this and it seems everyone is coming out with them.
Pioneer, JL or Elemental designs all make nice units that I have personally heard, although there are others.

Based on the measurements I see, how is a 10" sub going to fit in a 9" x 9" area? Have a look at the Earthquake shallow mount 8" for a respectable subwoofer in this application.

Cut a baffle board with a 10" hole and I will bet that if you go shallow you will be able to fit a 10 without too much trouble.

I was planning to cut out the cargo box on the inside, which reveals a much larger space, and design either a MDF or fiberglass enclosure to fit the sub. A 10 should be able to mount in there, with a little more difficulty.

Would the 9X9X5 cargo area even have enough volume after being sealed to be a worthy enclosure for any subwoofer?

For a sub like a shallow mount engineered to operate in a uber small sealed box, hells yeah! I have lots of imagination, I just refuse to operate on it's guidelines when I cannot see the task in front of me in person. Nothing worse than sending someone down the wrong path.
