Help:Connect Car Sub to Home Amp
 

Hello,

I have a box with 2 subs Jensen BP212, The Bandpass Subwoofer incorporates two single 4ohm voice coil subwoofers which are wired in parallel and produce a 2-ohm system impedance.

My home amplifier is a 8-16 ohm impedance, the connection is ok until a loud bass occur then the amplifier just cuts off and I have to restart it.

The connection to the box is a single + and - connection for both subs.

Can anyone tell me how can I make this connection right?

Take subs out of box and hook a wire between the positive of one sub and the negative of the other sub and use the remaining positive and negative to the terminal cup on the box, this will give you a 8 ohm load and your amp will be happy.

I've done home pro and car audio for years and have never come across a home amp that couldnt run a 4ohm load.
That bein said I'll assume your amp is a home audio amp that is 2 channells so open the sub box and instead of both subs bein wired to one terminal cup split them electrically so you can wire one sub to the right channel and one to the left. Wire them in phase or you will have cancellation and shitty sound. If you have a mono sub home or pro audio amp then series your two subs to creat a single 8 ohm load and connect this to your single output from your amp

Thanks for all your response, the home amp is a singe output (mono), so I took the subs out and wired them in series, that resolved the issue with the amp cutting off, but the sound is now less bass as the subs are out of sync.

Is there any way I can run the subs in parallel and increrase their impedance so the amp wouldn't be cutting oiff?

They shouldn`t be out of sync, the less bass is due to the amp only putting out about a quarter of what it was able to at 2 ohm until its protection circuit kicked in.

No there really is no way to add resistance as it has to be able to change at the same rate that the speaker does.

I would recommend getting 8 ohm woofers to replace your current ones that way your amp sees a 4 ohm load and will produce more power than it is now (dependant if you amp would cut out at 4 ohms or not) you would have ot try 1 of your 4 ohms wired up to see if the amp cut out at higher volume.
