So heres the setup

Xtant 3150 which in the Mono channel is supposedly just 2ohm stable.

I have a dual 2ohm Kicker SoloBaric L5 (10”) that I want to use (in the recommended .06 to 0.88 cu-ft) and I don’t want to run in series (4ohm) cause the sub will only be getting about 150watts / this sub is Super power hungry with an efficiency rating of less than 86db and in a sealed enclosure / they like lots of power


Now of course two 2ohm voice coils are about 1 ohm nominal but heres where things get complicated.

Of course as a speaker nears its resonant frequency the impedance rises exponentially / also I’d be crossing the thing over at about 60 or 70 hz (onboard is 12db) plus my headunit has on board crossovers, so I’m pretty much able to guarantee that only certain frequencies will get through its not like I’m running to large drivers full-range into a 1ohm load

So

A-how often will the amp actually see 1 ohm ?
B- Anyone have experience with running an amp of this caliber into 1ohm rather than 2?

We tried running this amp at under a 2 ohm load and it, like the 3300 model as well, did not like it too much. It was capable of it, the cooling system is great but we found that the added strain on it was plainly evident. A nice amplifier no doubt but not the one that I would choose for the application.

the 1 ohm it is rated at is a dc resistance. impedance will never go down to 1 ohm and your right, it will rise. but music is dynamic and it will rise up and go down and there is no way for you to know the impedance as heat, inductance and many other factors will vary it. you amp should go into protection it will tell you by shutting off. id be more inclined to run it at 4 ohms and have more control over the amp and woofer .not as loud but a heck of a lot more controlled and running cooler.

Nay. Sell that amp and buy something more suitable for that driver.

uh , selling it really isn't an option / nothing on the market today comes within yards of this amp (especially in one footprint / for the money)

I'll change the sub instead / or perhaps like someone said - run it at 4ohm
