Help - my amp is on fire!!
Well, not on fire exactly but it was smoking quite a bit shortly after turn on. Here's what I know:
I recently installed a Diamond Audio D7152 I bought on Ebay. I am running an Audiocontrol Line Driver to the amp. I have had no problems for about two weeks until yesterday... The main fuse on the power lead from my battery blew yesterday after the car/stereo was running for about 10 seconds. I changed the fuse and checked all of my power/ground wires and turned the stereo on and everything sounded fine, but after about 15 - 30 seconds I could smell someting electrical "burning" or overheating. I shut everything down and opended the trunk to find smoke coming from the inside of the Diamond Audio Amp. Even with the volume and the line driver levels at their lowest, the amp continues to smoke. Funny thing is the amp/sub still sound great! nfortunately, if I play the amp for more than a minute my car will probably burn up!
Can anyone tell me what could be causing this? If it can be a million different things then just say so, I will have to look into getting it repaired by Diamond.
The signs of amp issues before this are these two things: 1) There amp eminates is a quick burst of static when truned off (turn-off); and, 2) when I first installed the Line Driver, I had the unit set at balanced signal out, which the amp definately did not like (loud short bursts of power/noise). I figured out to swittch to unbalances right away so I hope I didn't damage it then. THe amp worked fine for weeks after that though.
Thanks for any input - this was a very nice sounding amp - I hate to lose it

how long ago did you buy it? If it's out of warranty, it really does not matter where you bought it. If there is a repair shop close by, get a free estimate( most shops will do that), it may be cheaper and faster to have it repaired locally.

Have it repaired locally if they have schematics. Very few places if any that will be local should have schematics for Diamond amps.
Hey
I have 18 Diamond parts amps, mostly D7104's, D7402's & D5600.x's. They are all similar layout from what I have seen. I have repaired a few of their other amps too but don't remember the models off hand (silver rounded heatsink).
