HELP!.. need to upgrade stock speakers

i have a 90 topaz.. comes with stock front and rear speakers... they sound ****ty ... i need to upgrade them .. but don't know what to get ..
1)first of i'm pretty sure i need to find out the size of them ... but how do i do that ...
2)I want to get something good.... but i don't want to get something that requires an amp to power them....
3)once i have them .. are they easy to install ?

any help would be greatly appreciated

they may sound bad because your using the stock head unit, replacing that makes all the difference in the world

for the sizes, most car audio places will have a book with that information

i have to replace the stock deck anyways... ther's this guy selling a Koss Ms551 for $ 120 .. it plays mp3s... i'm thinking bout that ... would that work good?

I'd stay away from that, KOSS makes good head phones, I'm not sure about decks. With the amount of work required to replace the deck its best to get a known good one from the start. Pioneer, Rockford Fosgate, Panasonic,

is it wise to spend a lil more on a good deck, since it can be transferrable from from one vehicle to another?.. and not spend much on speakers since they are more car specific.?

for a 90 Topaz, replace the deck with a decent one and get aftermarket speakers but nothing else, that car isn't worth spending a fortune on, $300 for the deck, $50 for the front speakers and $100 for the rears, after tax and any other small stuff like mounting hardware you should be in the $500 range, if you go used maybe $250 for everything

what kind of deck? brand/model and speakers? would u suggest for that price? i'm looking for a deck with mp3s. too
