Hiding your deck????

Hiding your deck????
Is there any deck manufacturers that make a radio that can be hidden and yet still controlled by remote. I'm doing an install in a '74 Bricklin, all original, and the owner wants to hide an aftermarket deck (only space is under passenger side dash) and keep the original radio in place. Is there any such radio. I've never had to hide a deck before???
Thanks in advance!

that could be done with any deck that has a remote. If you dont mind removing the ir led from the remote and wiring it to a location it can point at the deck.
There are some obvious problems with that. Having a remote with wires coming out of it is 1. You would likely want to mount the remote somewhere.
limited access to the cd player for loading discs or making adjustments that are not on the remote
not being able to see the display on the deck.
Could it be mounted in a glove box where it is fairly easy to get at, but can be hidden as well?
or could the deck be mounted in the dash at the original location and build a cover out of the front panel of the factory deck to hide the aftermarket deck when its not in use?

The factory radio is the old **** type with a leaf clock. Remember the old alarm clocks that used numbers on leafs that flipped around to tell the time? This is actually in its factory radio. So ... I guess no, unfortunately, I can't use the old factory face to hide the new radio.
Thanks though!

Some brands, Pioneer, Clarion, maybe others have a wired remote system. You usually find it under Marine audio accessories.
Here is a link of the Pioneer unit on the FS website. It's nice cuz it has a display too: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0076784&catid=

That's definitely a step in the right direction. I think that he might like this concept. I should be able fab something to install that control into. Cool, thanks a lot. If he doesn't like this I guess we'll have to remove the factory deck.

I use an Alpine 1656 changer controller in my car. It resembles an FM unit except it has a line in for the factory deck, runs the changer directly, and has RCA outputs for amps. I keep my factory deck and there is a small controller somewhat like that Pioneer remote. It works dandy but makes for a more complicated system.

Alpine 1656 changer controller - is this a CD changer/controller??
Thanks again.

there are new style decks that come in old chassis. like shaft radios etc, for that stock appearance in older cars.
