I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with building home theatre sub boxes, and putting car subs in them. I'm wondering how big the box should be, and what it should be tuned to. I want it to go low. The sub is an infinity Kappa perfect 12.1 getting 360w from a plate amp. Thanks

I remember somebody using a perfect for a home sub. Said it worked great in about 4 cubic feet tuned to about 20-22hz.. WinISD suggests this to.

i can think of about 6 different car sub setups being used for home audio :D

i saw something sick one day, a guy had 2 18"s in a box the size a freezer (the big ones) and he had a nice big amp.

well, when you think of it. when building a home theater sub from car audio parts you will needs.

1) an amp, lets say 150$
2) a sub, mmm- 150$
3) a box, build it yourself 40$
4) a ac/dc converter...I assume around 100$

so your spending about 450$ for a home audio sub. dont you think it would be just as affordable to go purchase a new one?

Most of the people who want to make HT sub is because they have parts kicking around, I.E sub(S). I opted not to put mine in the car so I put it to use so far I am in for 250$ cause the lady didn't charge me for the 1" mdf I used. In the end it's about 500$ but odds are it's gonna play lower/louder then the HT SUB you could buy out right from a retailer and for a good power sub you can spend easily higher then 500$ and that might be only midrange quality. Least with building ur own you know it's built solid and has a good amp behind it with some pretty good power!

I got my plate amp from www.creativesound.ca I paid for the amp late monday night, and had it friday morning. I can say that it's all I expected and more. Variable crossover, sub volume, and a remote to boot. Great deal, cost me about 230 cdn for the amp in total.


Yeah, I'm building this because I had a car sub sitting around and wanted something in my room to pound and not have to pay up the ass. You don't need a converter for a plate amp. To get a home theatre sub comparable to an infinity getting 360w, I would think that you'd have to pay upwards of $800 or more.

I have been in their showroom and listen to their stuff and its pretty decent , or u can try the TUMALT and build your own box for it , and sit back and relax , If u guys decide to buy from them tell them NORMAN from Vancouver sent u

setup in my room...
1, sony 360 watt 3-disc CD/reciever/tape deck
+ 1, MA audio 12'' sub (XS cargo, where else?!)
+ 1, industrial 900W amplifier (like the ones used in stores and malls for the crappy ceiling speakers)
+ 1, homemade MDF sub box (~2cubes, 2 ports)
= enough bass to rattle the entire house from top to bottom.
IT REALLY WORKS!
