Hooking up deck - quick question
 

I need to find a power lead to my deck. My manual says I can use the fuse box, it's labled BAT. I don't have a test light right now, so what's the easiest way to find one? Just use one of the wires coming out of the fuse box (BAT)? It's in a 1981 GMC.

For constant power, run a wire to the battery. And for switched power, on the fuse box, use any acc fuse (radio, heater, ect)

Whats the difference? What do I need to do?

The constant power (wire going to the battery) is to keep the memory in the cd player. i.e. channel saves, bass treble setting, ect.
And switched is to turn it on when the car turns on.
so a switched fuse for the switched wire. And straight to battery for constant 12+ volts.
It will tell you what wire goes where, in the manual.

I already have contant power. I need 'switched' or acc. Just says the BAT thing in the manual.

well bat, will be constant. So you don't want that.
put the switched or acc (whatever they call it for your hu), into a thje fuse holder that says like "heater" "radio" or hell on some vehicles even "horn" works. Just anything that only turns on with the ignition.
But tell you what, if you can't figure it out, drive 200 miles north and I'll do it for you ;). nice to see another brother from saskatchewan here.

yeah, i just looked in the manual and i need an accesory terminal in the fuse box. So how would I wire that in then? Just splice the wire, or do it from the fuse box? Thanks for your help!

You might have any empty fuse holder on the box that turns on with the ignition. So you could just use that.
But if you don't then you can splice into the wire on the back of the box (or even the front)

Do I just wire it right in there? Or do I need a plug-in thing?

you will need either a male of female connector (male for front of box, female for the back). The female is the same as a speaker connector
