in house car audio installation

If anyone can help me i need to know how to setup a safe way to instal my sound system in my room. i'm kinda confused about the ground wire.. where would i put that?
please help me.

Is this a car stereo that you're trying to use in your house? Or a home theater of some kind?

stevieg 06-24-2008 10:44 PM

hey its a car audio system
i have 2 planet audio tens, porten box. kenwood mono amp player, i think its 400 watts, a kenwood double din deck, 4 clarion 5 1/2" and a wire set
i know i'd have to build a box to hold the deck and speakers but how do i set up the ground and the battery?

ok you need a power inverter something to go from 120vac-12vdc or 14vdc it will have a positive and negative connection on it. no battery you just plug that into the wall then hook up everything to it.

PT-Chris 06-25-2008 06:58 AM

dont just plug your amp into the wall

stevieg 06-25-2008 10:06 AM

how do they connect everything in a show room?
all the wires leading from the amp to the battery have to be converted? how would i do that?
and the back of the deck has a group of coloured wires. where do they go?

Tom.F.1 06-25-2008 10:54 AM

showrooms usually have a 40 amp, 14 v power supply.
they go for about 300.00
And they'll put a couple big caps on it so they can show off some amps.
All this is made to run for very short period of time.
For showing off bigger systems, they use a battery and a charger.

OPPressed 06-25-2008 11:03 AM

ahh just pick up a couple of diodes, wind up your own transformer and you are good to go!

stevieg 06-25-2008 01:01 PM

so what i'm getting from this is i should modify my existing system because its impossible to use inside a house.
why can't i just use a simple car battery put the ground somewhre and hook up everything as it would in a car. is there anyway that is ppossible

OPPressed 06-25-2008 01:20 PM

lol if u do that make sure you connect the ground to the battery and not somewhere ;)

but seriously a AC to DC converter that steps down from 120v to 14v is pretty easy to make, its going from DC to AC thats a bitch.

stevieg 06-25-2008 06:36 PM

so how would i put the ground to the battery and where can i find out how to make a ac to dc converter

nghtrdr 06-25-2008 07:56 PM

if u had to ask about an ac-dc invertor or how to ground ur equipment, ur best to just leave it in the car!!!
in order to do what it is u want u need more than just a 40amp dc invertor. as it was stated these are not meant to run for long periods of time and get hot really fast, and i mean hot. u can run them on moderate volumes but not pumped for long.. ur better off getting a good home theator amp and a divx/dvd player and u will have everything and more ur car audio would have. home speakers are cheap used. check kijiji i saw a few good whole systems for sale cheap..
ill keep my eye on the news for a house fire in Markham over the next few days... hehe

stevieg 06-25-2008 10:02 PM

what do you mean to the battery where do i connect it to.

OPPressed 06-25-2008 10:09 PM

The ground on the battery is the negative terminal (-)..

After having to explain what a ground is, I don't think your ready to build a ac - dc converter and transformer though ;>

stevieg 06-25-2008 10:18 PM

no i know that i just want a general idea of how it goes and i'll figure it out along the way.

abysil 06-25-2008 10:21 PM

Lolol. How about use search or look on the first page of threads for general audio. I definitely didn't before asking, but here is a helpful thread.

You seem to be confused about a ground? If you have a battery, hook ground on amp up to ground on battery. If you're in your room, whatever inverter you have will have a ground to which you can wire. Other than that, what is there to be confused about for the ground?

ok so i went to this computer store andhe said just to be safe i should get the 750 watt power inverter. so my question is how do i connect the amp to the inverter.
there are three wires ground, remote and +12 v
i think the way it goes is to connect the +12 v to the positive of the plug. and the ground to the negative. and the remote to the deck is that correct.
and i don't know alot about what i'm doin so i thank everyone who can help me.

abysil 06-26-2008 09:56 PM

If you're using a car audio deck, yes take remote from deck. If you were using something else to play music, you'd also put +12 to remote. Ground is always to ground, so the black terminal on the inverter. You can also take +12 and ground from the inverter for the h/u. Use RCA's from H/U to amp, then use regular wire from amp to whatever speakers you're using. If i missed anything, someone else will chime in

X2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

stevieg 06-27-2008 01:31 PM

thanks that should help me alot.
i like toys that get you places, fast. so i guess i'm covered then

stevieg 06-28-2008 04:25 PM

ok so i have a 750 watt converter for a 600 w amp. is that enough or should i go with a higher watt.
the wiring harness at the back... what would that connect to?

stevieg 06-28-2008 05:04 PM

ok i feel really stupid i just realized the harness is for the speakers. now my question is how does the deck power itself.

OPPressed 06-28-2008 06:08 PM

rtfm, run both the ACC and 12V wire from harness to your power inverter, run the remote from harness to amp, amp positive to inverter, amp negative to inverter...

:stroke:

stevieg 06-28-2008 06:54 PM

where or what does this acc look like

stevieg 06-28-2008 07:03 PM

ok i found the acc and 12 v wires so they both go to positive in inverter as well as the amp positive all in the same terminal.

danyman 06-28-2008 07:14 PM

check the deck manual it will tell you what color is for what
