This probably should be easy and simple, but i've been confusing myself more and more all day thinking about it.

Lately I concluded that i was lacking a lil midbass, so i turned the xover on the amp powering my CDT CL61 (6.5" / 1" components) way down. Somewhere between 80-150hz or so (kinda tough to guage on the amp)

Now this is fine and all, sounds good, other than the doors rattling a lil more on some songs. My question is: overall things appear to have gotten quieter - is that just me?

I think i'm confused on what the xover does. Is it correct to say that the xover is the cut off point of the signal in hz sent to the speaker with it's respective slope. In this case the HPF set to somewhere between 80 and 150 means that that's where the frequencies begin to roll off. Anything above that should not have changed.

If the above is true, am i just making this up about it all seeming quieter?

your probably just getting used to it being loud

In my experience, highs with less midbass tend to sound louder than when more midbass is added...I doubt it is any quieter if all you have done is change the cross-over...it's just your perception...

Similarly, distorted music always sounds louder to me than clean music, even though the may be at the same volume...again, just a perception...
