I am about to purchase the new D901 . . . whenever it decides to get back into available stock.

I have been doing some research on how to bypass the "Video Lock" screen. I have learned that Alpine, unlike my old Pioneer in-dash, is a little more complicated install when it comes to bypassing this screen. I have seen people use a PAC-TR7 model or a Black Box module to easily bypass the screen and trick the unit into displaying video. I don't mind buying one of these units from eBay, but I have a few questions:

1. Does anyone carry these units in there shops? If so how much are they?
2. How does everyone bypass Alpine's system without these modules?
3. If I don't need these modules, how do I go about doing the install myself?
4. Lastly, how would I incorporate a switch to turn on/off the video bypass. I would need this for legal reasons . . . ya know just in case.

Thanks.

I don't think many shops will sell the "black box" ones although some shops may sell the PAC TR7 model as it has uses other than bypassing Alpine's video interupt.

One way I have seen the Alpine screnn be bypassed is to hook a switch up to the e brake wire off the Alpine H/U. You step on the brake and flip the switch, release the brake, you would now have video until you shut the ignition off at which time you would have to do the procedure again.
Not sure exactly how to install a switch to bypass the PAC TR7 but it should be fairly easy to do if you have a wiring diagram for it.

^what Dereck said is pretty much it. You could use a simple 3-position "valet" type latched switch in theory...there-by having an experimental selection or a legal selection.. this is for educational purposes only of course... always obey the rules of the road.

Good luck, Wayne.

The TR7 does have many other uses other than to bypass Alpine Video. I do sell them but not as a Video bypass by any means. It is included in the instructions how to do this.

2 swithces required, e-brake and foot brake.
E-brake goes to ground, foot brake gets 3 momentary grounds, then the foot brake gets released. I simply use 2 hidden switches, and I do not use while driving...at least not often...
