How come 5 channel amps aren't more popular?

Greets.
I've been slowly replacing components of my stock system. Speakers were first to be replaced (went Infinity). Now I'm at the point where the HU is next likely to be purchased in conjunction with an amp so as to optomise install woes. Sub will come later.
To me, a 5 channel amp seems ideal. I don't want to fill my hatch with audio equipment I just want decent sound. I'm intending a budget install.
The 5 channel would maximise my hatch space and provide me the flexibility to add the Sub at a later date.
Here's my delema. I'm getting the impression that 5 channel amps are generally frowned upon. Is there something that my inexperience is missing? Are there good affordable options in 5 channel amps? I'm looking at some very affordable options from Kicker and Pheonix Gold.
Any budget inspired guidance would be appreciated.

I think the reason I haven't looked into them is because I haven't seen a budget 1200rms monoblock
connected to a 75X4 channel amp in the form of a 5 channel.
The other thing you could consider is buying a 4 channel for less than the 5 channel, and then you can get the sub or subs and sub amp at a later date, and at that time, get a sub amp that matches the power ratings of the sub.

I like 5 channel amps, about half of my customer are not the younger generation that are trying to lay waste to the neighbourhood with their bass output. For these people a 5 channel amp is kinda hard to find. For the balance of them, a 5 channel amp fits the need just perfect.

I am not sure if it is relevant or not but we also have a brand new 6 channel amplifier in the Helix A6 Competition, this amp has been very popular since it was released last month...

5-channel amps are a good way to go as long as you think your system out in advance. Some say that the only real dissadvantage is if one channel malfunctions then you bear the cost of replacing the whole amp which generally costs more than each individual amp of a multiple amp system. Than being said, however, I would have gone the five channel route if I had planed out my system better from the start AND if I did not need more power to the subs.
The best examples of ggod 5-channel amps are:
1. Memphis - Memphis Belle. They have two models, one that sports 1,300 watts total power and one that has 600 watts total power. The 600 watt amp is a lot less costly and has 55 watts by 4 and up to 400 watts to the bass channel (at 1 ohm). Nice units with lots of variable high-pass and low-*** filters and kick as SQ.

2. JL Audio 500/5 - This is one sweet amp and has a very strong 250 watt RMS at 1.5 - 4 ohms for the sub channel (same as their 250/1).

If I could choose, I would take the JL for sound quality and the higher front wattage capability. You might find a good deal on either of these on Ebay or elsewhere on the net.

The Kicker kx-700.5 rocks, I recently heard one of these in a 5 channel set up. I believe it was running 70x4 at 4ohms and 420x1 at 2 ohms into a 12 inch Alpine type R(new 2005 model)subwofer. It's SQ and output were both excellent and the install was very clean and did not take up a lot of space. I will definitely consider this set up in the future.
