How do you ship?
Just wondering what companies you guys use for shipping or any experiences you've had in the past.
I've found FedEx to be pretty pricey. Purolator seems to be the best "all around".
I personally would choose not to use UPS. I've had a few bad experiences with them in the past. Basically I used to order from a supplier and the shipments would just vanish en-route.
I had to go through their claims process so many times it was getting ridiculous.
The funny thing is that they would tell me it was in transit and they just had to track it down. This would go on for a good month before they would eventually conceed that it was lost or stolen. I assume stolen because of the number of times it happened. (this was back when I worked at a computer store and it was all RAM or CPU's.. easy to steal and resell)..
It's been a while though and I've never had to deal with the billing side of things. So value for money is also important.
Thanks all

UPS can bite my lilly white A$$.....................based on how much they rape you when shipping into Canada.............they could be the cheapest for me to ship and I still wouldn't use them.................
I am all set up on Fedex.................
I had some crap experiences with Purolator so I won't use them..............

Well, I decided to get off my *** and try some of my own investigating. Seems like you made the right choice with FedEx.
I calculated the rate to ship a 65lb box (say a large 12" sub) that is in a box that is 16"x16"x16" from Ottawa to your shop in Surrey. I just used the postal code off the HzEmall web page. If a signature was extra I added that to the cost.
DHL - $68.57
UPS - $59.57
Puro - $55.95
FedEx - $50.93
CdnPst - $44.55
I don't believe that Canada Post will do a pick up from your place of business. You actually have to bring it to the post office. So it would look like FedEx is the best choice.
Sweet.. thanks Tim.

if you get an account it is all based on the service you get. we do absorbant amounts of shipping and couriers are always wanting in. But here is my opinion. If you want a very high probability of arrival...puro or fed ex. if you want local service(as far in bc)... canpar9rates are very affordable. if you wanna cross borders with it....fed ex. you want good support and easy web updates....puro. all in all they all work and they all have web to track it and they all have good customer service. But the shipping times vary. research that and youll see what i mean. fed ex or puro from vancouover to ont is 4 working days(depending on size and location) canpar 5-7 days same route. CP is about 9-12 days. i do not know of others but this is pretty much what we use and we can predict eta's ok with this. hope this helps out.
all large freight is CF. these have been the best for us and we shall keep using them

Across Canada if it is under 70 lbs or so I use DHL. You have to look at what kind of business rates these companies will give - not just the standard consumer rates.
For importing light stuff from the US I use UPS. Something I like about UPS - if you fly it, no brokerage charges. If it's under about 60lbs that means it's as cheap to fly as to go by ground...
We use FedEx from the US on occassion but the bastards cubed a light piece on me and nailed me on it so they can **** off.
Most of the stuff I ship is hundreds or thousands of pounds in which case it's Reimer or CFL for Canada and Yellow Freight from the US.
All local stuff is by Greyhound Courier. They only carry up to 70lbs but they are the cheapest by far that we have found. I find that it is tough to get my eastern suppliers to ship that way though so I revert to DHL.
