how imortant is the surround material on a speaker? (with PICS)

so i took my front speakers out of my car the other day to swap over to my truck and i noticed that on the passenger side speaker. it looks like the surround material has been heated (???) the material has changed color and is deformed slightly. when you push on the surround where it is deformed you can see cracks in it (see pic). so will degrade the sound quality at all. should i repair it? how should i repair it? maybe use rubber cement on it?

well the surround holds the cone in a linear pattern so any degrigation of the surround could potentially distort the sound of the speaker and shorten its life... that being said, with the slight damage to that speaker i would go in from the back side with some silicone and lightly repair the rip..... dont goop it on...........if you cant reach the rip with a finger then place a small amount on a q-tip and then brush on... good luck..

I've put up with really naff cheap speakers for years, but when I want better quality sound for playing music, I pump it through the aux of my stereo system - my stereo is pretty crap also though.
I've decided it's time to get some 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. I've been trying to find reviews but all I find on google is price comparison sites and crap customer reviews from sites like amazon. I don't want to spend a lot of money, my budget is about £40-80. I just want to make sure I get the best bang for my buck. I'm planning to wall mount the speakers and set them up properly, which should sound great because my PC is directly in the middle of the back wall in my room. Good luck with your HT..... To the OP, try repairing it as suggested above.....as long as your careful how much you use it should work fine for a while.....:smilie_da |
