how imortant is the surround material on a speaker? (with PICS)

so i took my front speakers out of my car the other day to swap over to my truck and i noticed that on the passenger side speaker. it looks like the surround material has been heated (???) the material has changed color and is deformed slightly. when you push on the surround where it is deformed you can see cracks in it (see pic). so will degrade the sound quality at all. should i repair it? how should i repair it? maybe use rubber cement on it?

well the surround holds the cone in a linear pattern so any degrigation of the surround could potentially distort the sound of the speaker and shorten its life... that being said, with the slight damage to that speaker i would go in from the back side with some silicone and lightly repair the rip..... dont goop it on...........if you cant reach the rip with a finger then place a small amount on a q-tip and then brush on... good luck..

yeah these are cliff designs 6.25 IIRC (maybe 6.5) these were my front speakers in my car but im getting a nice component set for the front of my truck and these are going in the back. if they crap out ill prob get some energy ones from futureshop for $100
