I'm sick of paying 50 + for RCA cables locally so I'm going to buy one off the net for my next install. Just one question - Will a 12 foot RCA cable be long enough to go from the trunk of my 2002 Golf to the dash of the car?

Thanks for the help everyone.

Go with a 17'.

I've been waiting for someone to say something like that!! Can i help if i bring my own RCA? :D I'd go with the 17', gives you alot more to work with... or you could make your own cables, then they'd be the perfect length..

I agree with dwvw as a rule i generally use a 17 footer, in any car for dash to trunk as it allows for movement of gear within the vehicle if you change your system, or if you have left over it is easy to conceal. There is nothing worse than getting an rca all tucked behind panels and then to find you are 2" short. I.E. my second install i ever performed!

Hehe, ok I'll go with a 17'. It's just tough to pass up a good deal on a 12' cord.

I use 6 footers in my Civic, but I go right down the middle and my amps are mounted on the back of the seat, still got a little room to play with but not too much. I would think a 12' would be enough for a golf though wouldn't it?

Take out some measuring tape and measure... then add abuot a foot and see what you have. Just remember to measure till the end of your trunk in case you might want to move your equipment as someone else said. Thats what I did.

Just to let you know I will be doing this in my jetta (same car as golf) and I haevv 17' RCAs.

You may be able to get away with the 12' cable, however I usually like to leave enough slack to locate an amp/processor anywhere in the trunk comfortably...

I think I have 17' in my EL as well. Seems like the most common size in compact cars.

Newer VW's also need a bit more length up front because the wire doesn't have as good a path through the dash as some other cars. Every car I see with 12' RCA's has it in the way of stock components,or close to brake pedals, clutch pedals etc. With a 17' you have more leeway to route the cables in the safest, best looking way.
