How to make this Enclosure?

Hey as some people might remember I'm looking to put some 10" subs in a Buick Rendezvous but keep the hatch area 100% functinal still. So I'm thinking of using the type of enclosure I saw the other day in the August 2011 issue of Streetrodder Magazine. It seems to be a standard sealed enclosure but with one exception ...the subs look like they are firing into a slot port almost... probley why they called it a slot loaded enclosure lol. But is that teh proper name?If I could build this properly I could use that as part of a false floor that I can use to replace the underfloor storage compartments in my hatch area. My Big question is what is this actualy called and how do you design one properly?? Also how will this compare to a standard sealed or ported box?
Heres a link to the article since my explination is probley lacking a certian something lol.

Thanks so much for any help in advance.
