Well it has been kinda dead around here lately so I thought I might try to get things going a bit.
Now I dont mean what you had for like 15 minutes but set-ups that you had for a while, and what they were. I got my first system back in 1997 when I was 16 and have only really had 3 more since then. I have had many many many more quick set-ups but these are the main ones. #1: H/U: some crappy Kenwood EQ/Processor: I had a coil mounted to my box as a passive crossover for the subs. Fronts: factory Front amp(s): none Rears: Factory Rear amp(s):none Sub(s): 2 JL 10W18 Sub amp(s): PPI Pro Art 200 Had this set-up for like 3 months. #2 H/U: Alpine CDA 7840 EQ/Processor: Orion 300 PSW Fronts: Orion XTR 6.2 Front amp(s): Orion XTR 375 Rears: None Rear amp(s): None Sub(s): 6 JL 10W04 Sub amp(s): 2 Orion HCCA 225 I had this one for a long time!!! #3 H/U: Alpine CDA 7840 ( I still have it to this day) EQ/Processor: Orion 300 PSW (just sold it a month ago) Fronts: Orion XTR 6.2 comps. (you know it, I still have them kickin around and they still sound awesome) Front amp(s): Fusion FP 1002 Rears: None Rear amp(s): None Sub(s): 2 Treo CSX 18's Sub amp(s): 2 Fusion Jonah Lomu 2500's About 5 months or so. #4 This is not in yet but will be hopefully by May, planning on alot of fibreglass. H/U: Alpine CDA 7998 EQ/Processor: Orion Concept 97.2 Fronts: Image Dynamics CD1PRO mini horns and Image CX 62 mid bass drivers. Front amp(s): Treo SSX 75.4 (because it has balanced inputs) Rears: None Rear amp(s): None Sub(s): 3 Image Dynamics ID Max 12's Sub amp(s): 2 Treo SSX 750.1's I would love to say this set-up will be in my truck for a very long time but you never know. I just thought it would be kinda cool to see how set-ups changed in comparison to age and gains in knowledge. I went from average guy that just wants bass who cares what the rest sounds like to pure street pounder with some concern to how it sounds, then went to who really cares as long as it is DAMN LOUD!!! now I am at the stage that I need to have a real crisp clean overall sound but still be able to street pound with the best of them. hehe, i can't really say how many setup's i've had, but i've been into car audio before i even had my license, which was over 12yrs ago, and i have tried everything from alpine to zapco. with the exception of fusion, digital designs, and memphis. my setup is constanly changing as for some reason i get bored fast and am always looking for something to do. even the system on my sounddomian page is totaly changed just from last summer. the only thing the same will be the subs.

I think ive had it with systems now... To much money, im quite happy with what i have now. in terms of accuracy, clarity and overall sound i think my last setup is best. However my 5th setup was just astronomical interms of output and just share power. But i didnt feel almost 15 grand worth of audio is worth it to put in a 20,000 dollar car. Phew Kriston |
OH: and that does not count the endless list of stuff i played with in the car for a few weeks here and there: just to Name A few:

I hate this question when it comes up, mostly because there have been so many over the years that after a while they start to fade away...
First system went into a 1973 Ford Maverick sedan I was using to deliver pizza....hehehe....Craig cassette deck, Craig Powerplay Power booster amp, Craig speakers in the front doors and the rear deck and a pair of Radio Shack 10" subs in a huge box in the trunk... Next upgrade was a Kenwood cassette deck, 2 Optimus amps, 1 Kenwood amp (2 X 100W) and a pair of M+M Godfather series 12" subs. Still wish I had kept that Kenwood amp, it was a powerhouse for it's time... There have been a few additions and deletions over the years, but the last round left me with this: Deck: Kenwood KDC-X659 Processors: Audio Control Epicenter Kenwood KEC600 6-way Crossover Each front Door: JL Audio XR525 CSI Component set 2 Orion MB6 Midbass drivers Subs: 4 Orion 15" SVC XTR3 subs 2.5cuft sealed per sub Amps: Orion SX 2150 @4ohms stereo = 150watts per XR525 set Orion SX 2150 @2ohms stereo = 150watts per MB6 Orion Concept 97 3 amp @2ohms stereo = 375watts per sub Other Stuff: LightningAudio 2gauge power and ground wire 3 Pairs 17' Tsunami Twisted Pair RCA's from the deck to the box RF Twisted pair RCAs in the box 2 X 1Farad Brax Caps Of course the vehicles have gotten a lot bigger over the years, all this stuff is in a Ford E150 cargo van. I have had the car audio bug for almost 35 years now...it's been a lot of fun and I still enjoy helping new enthusiasts with their setups. [ March 25, 2005, 07:42 PM: Message edited by: BigRedGuy ] |
OMG, I've been into car audio since I was 16 (32 years ago). I used to have a friend who went to Japan twice a year. He brought back new equipment every year just for kicks. I bought whatever he didn't want anymore. I average a new deck every two to three years. I can't even remember them all. This year alone (four months) I've gone through four decks!
Amps I tend to keep the same for as long as they work (average ten to fifteen years). Some of the stuff I remember.... Pioneer's first cassette deck they made in Japan (after 8 track died). Craig tape deck (top of the line back then). Model # RS XXXX - I have manual somewhere..... Yamaha CD player (used those stupid single cartridges) Denon top of the line deck (circa 1990) Nakamichi CD 760 Nakamichi TD 1200 Mk II (still have it - for sale!) Nakamichi CD 45z (still have it) Denonford 8250 Clarion VRX935VD in dash touch screen DVD Alpine IVA D901 (current setup) |
