How Much Power is Too Much?

I've got a couple of Alpine Type R's, SWR-1222D. I've got a JBL GTO-7001 for them. It would be about 350W each sub. I'm planning on running these in sealed enclosures.

Can anyone tell me if they will sound ok with only 350rms? I'm also looking at a JBL GTO-14001 which would deliver 750rms to each sub. Is that overkill? Will the 350rms do the job? The amp will be getting a 4v preout from an Alpine pxa-h100 and those JBL's have an input sens. of 6v to .2V.

Thanks for the input guys.

both amps will be ok for the subs because the recommended amp power is 300-500watt rms and the peak is 1500watt rms. If this is for daily listening then i would recommend buying an alpine mrp -m1000.But if your doing completions then i would get the JBL GTO-14001.But any amp is good(but still recommend buying mrp m1000=p:smilie_da)

O ya,I would also recommend putting the subs in a ported box.But it depends on the space. If you have a little space then sealed is fine =p

lt your ears decide what is too loud for you.
your ears are not the same as mine or anyone elses!

im going to pump 2000rms into one 12" xcon, is that too much. maybe, dont know, havent heard it yet!
only you know what is too loud for you!

Not so much loud or too loud. I just don't want to fry these subs. This is a daily driver.

The Alpine 1000W just doesn't seem to present it self at a deal I can jump at.

I'm also following up on a DD M3, looks to be about 1200rms @ 2ohms.

as far as overpower the subs, i really dont see that as a problem here. just be sure gains are set correctly.
again let your ears decide what is loud enough!

maybe before dropping more coin on new amps, see if there can be any gains to be had by changing the enclosure volume/type? :dunno:

Yeah, I have yet to build the enclosure. But of course it's the space thats an issue. The car is a sport compact sedan and I'd still like to be able to fit my golf clubs in the trunk plus I've got three amps and a cap to mount back there. The subs are brandnew and I don't have the time or money (says a 3 year old and a 4 month old) to keep building new enclosures. I'm replacing an Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 that was in a prefab. 1.75cuft ported @ about 38hz with 400rms. Before that was the infinity in a 1cuft sealed box. I liked the extra output of the ported box but not the fact that on some rock music only 2 notes of the bass guitar would shake my mirrors but the rest of the bass line could not be felt, only heard.

U can NEVER have too much power.

^^^^^ very true lol

I have 600 watts to 2 6 inch woofers rated at 150 max in a ported box for my winter system, and it shakes my mirrors. 350rms to each of your subs in a properly built box will slam.
