how to tell if sub is damaged.

hey all, im buying kicker 12" 07cvr122

its an hr and half drive to get it(60.00) but its a good price so its worth it.

the thing i`m afraid of is what if it doesnt work?
this is what he said to prove that it works.

"I will hook up to an amp here but I can only but 100 watts through it. It will show you that it works but it will not be the proper output it needs to function properly."

shouldnt it work properly with 100 watts?its 400 rms but it should work fine with 100 watts, just wont be as loud as 400 right?

its never been used he said and still in the box but hes tested it b4.
is there any way to make sure everythings ok with it?:dunno:

putting the 100 watts to it and listening carefully should tell you if its good, give it a sniff (well thats what I do, if it smells slightly like burnt electronics leave it there, push gently down on the cone to listen for scratchy sounds (press it straight in the direction it should move).....throw a dmm across the speakers posts and see if its 2-4 ohm or whatever ..shouldn't be way too high or low...but will not be exact.
