How to use a 4-channel for 2 speakers in stereo?

Hi! I want to power two component speakers (L and R) using the max output of my 4-channel. Can I bridge the 2 left channels togheter and the 2 right channels? I have 1 gain control for the front and 1 gain contol for the rear

The legend on the speaker terminals on the amp should show you where to hook the wires up to bridge the amp.....be careful with the gains and turn them both to minimum when you first turn it on.....the speakers will appreciate it......:smokin:

on my amp there are only instructions for bridging the front channels and thear channels.
Does that mean I can't run 2 channels in stereo? (bridged on left and right)

Don't worry about how the wires are hooked up, follow the diagram for the leads and you will have 2 channels each with a gain control.......good luck getting them exactly even.....

When doing this, run the same signal to both RCA inputs on each side of the amp. For example, if you want the Front channels to be left, put a left RCA in both Front inputs. Then put a right RCA in both Rear inputs. You now have mono left on the front and mono right on the rear.

I'll do this

I find when running your fronts this way, you will probably want your driver side gain set down a touch from the other side (unless you've got some T/A)

OK, so I kinda skipped over the details on the front end of the amp....oopsies....:ohwell:

Why not just setting them the same and then play with balance?

Set those gains first with the balance set at even so the speakers are happy . From there you can adjust the HU balance so you are happy with the sound as the balance should only decrease left or right (not overdrive or damage your speakers).

On a side note, I've got my front stage T/A'd but obviously the left speakers are closer to me so they sound much louder. Therefore I run my balance at about +2 to the right. After T/A adjustments are any of you guys still messing with balance?

jon818181 10-21-2010 01:02 PM

Is t/a really noticeable?

Dukk 10-21-2010 02:30 PM

^ If you have taken a lot of time and care in speaker placement then you can get away without T/A. If you want your car to image well and you have NOT taken the extra time in speaker placement, then T/A is more important

Do you have a sub amp? Is it mono or bridged? Do you have a stereo RCA going into it (both left and right)? If so and you play with the balance you may wind up with less bass output than expected.

With car audio is is important to start at the end of the line and work forward when it comes to design, installation, and tuning. Speaker installation makes a HUGE impact in the way they sound, then careful gain balancing, then processing, then minor touches at the head unit for song-to-song variances.

I had: Clarion 4-chan amp to power rear speakers and front components in non-deadened doors with mono amp for my subwoower.

Now I have:same clarion amp but bridged to give around 150watts to each component in the front in sealed and deadened doors. still the same mono amp and sub.

And this is a HUGE improvement. I get a lot more power since the channels are seeing 2 ohms each. Rear speakers are useless now

So take them out already.....:D

You lose nothing and you gain bass in the cabin without doing anything else.....:smilie_da

Do what he said! I took my rear speakers out about a month ago (mounted in the rear deck), way more bass gets into the cabin of my sedan.

The idea behind setting up volume/balance on the amp is once it is set, you cant fiddle with it up front and get it out of wack. But your choice. same with Sub/mid crossover Once it is set on amp (instead of HU) you are done. No more fiddling.
