How would you grade memphis amps?
Just wondering if there is a conscensus on the SQ qualities of Memphis Amps. Considering purchasing a MEMPHIS 16-MC500D to power a single sealed ten inch sub. How high up the quality scale is Memphis?
I would use this amp in conjunction with a Hifonics Europa powering 6.5 Dynaudio components.
An alternative that would probably cost more would be to get a decntly powerfull 4 ch amp. I have looked at the following locally.
Kicker 250 w 4 ch
DLS amp of about 65 per side (Not their high end line)
And a Tru of about 65 has also been mentioned. (Still don't know the price)
Opinions appreciated. Bob.

I think that Memphis makes great products all together. The amps do not fall short on power. Of course I am a SPL guy so I have no idea on SQ. But the Hardcore Riprock amps are the same as the Mojo, and they have been known to kill a sub or two. I don't think you could go wrong buying a Memphis amp.
I used the ST-1000D (same as the M-series) and although it made very good power and stayed cool it did not have very good control of the driver itself.
I swapped in an identical power Orion class D and the bass was much tighter (there was no processing being done by other amp).
Of course it all depends on your listening tastes and how you want the bass to sound so this is just one person's opinion.

If it's SQ that you're after, I'd suggest sticking to Class A/B amplifiers, rather than high switching designs such as Class "D". Staying with the suggested manufacturer's load for SQ is also a good idea..,but needs more power for what most people think they need.
Having said all that, keep in mind that install, design, and attention to detail will make or break this system, not so much brand names, IMO.
BTW I'm sure Memphis makes Class A/B amplifiers in their line-up.
