HT: 15" Kicker L7 on 100 watts?

Hey all,

I've got a 15" Kicker L7 just sitting around in my basement that I would like to put to good use. I only have ~105 watts from my reciever to power it as I really don't have the funds for a plate amp currently.

Is it worth while building a box to house this or is 100 watts really not enough, if not how much power would be suggested? How big would I need to go and what would be the suggested tuning frequency to make it happen?

Thanks.

Regards,
Steven

you could give it a try.

your looking at around 3.5-4 cubic feet @ 25-30hz

Thanks.

I will probably end up doing so. 3.5 to 4 cubes doesn't sound bad, I was expecting a little bigger. I guess with the low freq tuning I'll be dedicating some room to a port anyways.

Any limitations on port area I should consider? Min or max?

Thanks.

Steven

Before building an enclosure, I'd hook the sub up to the receiver just to see how much it'll respond to such low power. Of course, it may not give you a true sense, since an enclosure will let it operate properly.

What configuration are the voice coils? Dual 2, or dual 4? What type of receiver will this be hooked up to? If its a home audio receiver it may not accept a load lower then 8 ohms. If the sub is a dual 2, then you want be able to use it safely. If its a dual 4, you can wire the voice coils in series to create an 8 ohm load.

Thanks for the heads up but I have considered all this. The sub is dual 2 ohm, and the reciever, with adjusted settings, allows for max output with loads as low as 4 ohms (its a newer Yamaha). So connecting these in series should do the trick.

Connecting the sub with no box should stress it more right? Since this is sort of an IB set-up.

Should I expect more output from a box since it is an 'optimal' enclosure for the device, however it will be under less stress?

Thanks.

Steven

I'm using a 12" L7 for my computer set up right now. Blew the original 10" p.o.s. removed it and simply wired on the kicker works great.
