Hummer H1 Full Audio Installation Advice

Hello, I have bought a 1996 Hummer H1 and I want to install the perfect audio system.

I went to Best buy and asked for the very best which they have in stock:
-6 Speaker (JBL)
-Alpine 7 inch Touch Dash
-Capacitor
-Wiring
-2 Alpine 12' inch subs (1500amps)
-Alpine Amp (1000Amps).

I am looking for...the very best full complete system since the Hummer has all stock audio.
If you owned a Hummer H1 or where chosen to put in a full Audio System what would you put into it?
I am are currently thinking of installing 8 Sub woofers...Unfortunately I do not know what size and what brand would sound good. My father will help me with finace for the audio system.
Can somone reply with full specs on which audio system I should install into the Hummer H1.

PS. I wish to have a motorized slide out Dash so it can hide when the vehicle is parked. As well would it be best to hook up 1 Amp to each Sub? or 1 Amp to 2 ...etc.
PS2. If you do not have any time to write down all the specs, you can simply give me your phone number and I will call you.

Thank you, Matt

First things first, stop going to Best Buy and find a good car audio dealer...

Next, start asking questions right here on the forum...

With 8 1000 W single channel amps, one for each sub, and drawing something like 160 amps each for a total of 1280 amps, your alternator should be in the same class as of one from a diesel locomotive... :)

Hope yer dad's got lots of money, alternators from diesel loco's not only HUGE, but also quite pricy... :)

There is a list on the forum here that lists the crap, the good, and the best of car audio, but where it is, I don't know.

Ok guys, where's du list ??

Well, I'm not new to the car audio scene either, other than following it for years on and off, my current vehicle I've had for 5 years now and just about paid off. I've also never upgraded the stereo in it either, all the speakers have tears in them now... :)

One must be crazy to drive 66 miles to Selective Sound (from Woodstock) and put together a 1600 W Eclipse/Focal/Arc Audio system with a price tag of $ 7500..., I can't wait... :)

Go down to Selective Sound in Mississauga and talk to Davis Leal, he's the owner there and can help you with your dreams.

As a side note, I've just recently priced a 1600 W Eclipse/Focal/Arc Audio system there, and plan to upgrade to it during July.

Why did I go way up to Selective ??. It's just within my limit of an hours drive (just a little over, actually), plus he's an authorized dealer for all the brands I'm interested in.

Hehe, I'm looking at alternators now, but i also plan to have an extra battery in place of a cap, a Kinetek Power Cell in the trunk by the amps and a optima yellow top up front.

if done at a good shop properly im almost positive a cap will not and should not be used. a cap is something you get done at futureshop and best buy haha. second alt and battierss is ur fix:smilie_da

kyleorsini 05-18-2009 10:00 PM

btw nicee pick up on the hummer how many kms on her?

MR2NR 05-18-2009 10:41 PM

There are so many options to choose from it is not even funny. The trick is to know which ones are going to work for your specific application. What sort of time estimate do you have to allow for install? Are you willing to leave your vehicle somewhere to have a proper install performed?

Weman 05-19-2009 12:53 AM

Hit up selective sound davis is a nice guy and knows what he's doing, you might wanna look into an aftermarket alarm

prod 05-19-2009 10:41 AM

That roof rack is tempting, Id put like a 14cu/ft box up top with 8 12" subs to bother the neighbors. If they give me grief, Id go monster jam on their ass :3gears:
Seriously, theres always compromises to decide on. How much money are you willing to spend? What kind of music do you want to play on it? How much space are you willing to give up?

A shop in Burlington (Burlington Radioactive) last year showed me Kinetek powercells, which are small gellcells designed to replace caps, I thought they were a great idea, and stuck with the notion to get one when I upgrade.

basstoy 05-19-2009 08:05 PM

better get used to stopping at gas pumps often.. lol but 15 years ago when gas was cheep I would have loved to get one of these... but why why why now??? and you said you were gonna stay ON road with it??? that is just RONG.... oh well enjoy.....and get off raod with that thing!!!!!

My budget is from 4 to 6 thousand, and I have no problem in leaving the hummer for a proper installation. After giving serious thought, I decided to wait a little longer on it and wait till I make more money during my summer break to raise this budget. Currently I will be fishing for good prices and good proper equipment.

I will for sure need a Alarm system. That will be one of the first things I upgrade once I get my hummer back from the body shop.

Haha love the idea of putting speakers on the rack, funny. I am willing to spend from 4 to 6 thousand and later on upgrade my system, I wouldn't want to give out to much space but, I know it is required so it is no problem the Hummer has tons of room to give up! I would like to play heavy bass songs on the system, rock, techno and my favorite Dire Straits. After giving serious thought I decided to save more money up so I can get a better system, I will be working through my full summer vacation and raise my budget! While constantly fishing/surfing for good prices and advice.:)

I will post more pictures once it comes out of body shop. Also yes, it is in there to get the little bits of rust on the doors fixed and some on the front. Glad you love the color I love Red Hummers and as well Yellow hummers.
Oh and for the roof rack at first, I before was like: " I'm taking of the chunky thing right off and buying a tire holder instead for the rear" but after seeing it without the rack... It just looks like its missing something! So decided to keep it and make it look like a tank which can even carry a tank on top of it on the roof rack. The rack might turn out to be very useful for carrying objects and after all I can always remove it later on. :smilie_da
