A whine or a hum? Likely alternator whine which is generally due to inadequate grounds either external or internal to whatever equipment was installed.

Not all vehicles are the same. Without any sort of details, how is anyone supposed to help?

ach so!
Zis must be a bad Zener diode in the charging circuit, und also a sign of a weakened charging system straining for current.
It may also be as simple as induced noise into an signal cable, by an adjacent charging wire from the car.
Fords may need a subtle *"adjustment" of the main wiring harness, going over the Head unit. *May need to push harness away from HU, antenna wire, signal RCA etc..
Double check all grounds including head unit ground.

hrmphh, and here I thought Dukk was Psychic..,or psycho? ;-)

definitely psycho..

And dude - that was thirty years ago! (early 80s ford pickups had a heavy power cable that ran right above the head unit which used to get picked up by the TAPE HEAD in aftermarket decks...) You're showing you're age buddy..

Me thinks they still run that 14awg cable from the alternator back to ignition switch,
being picked up by the antenna or RCA couplers etc..
(joke about my age and I'll beat you with my cane..,young whipper snapper)

just change the grounds.. and change the rca cables.. and add another ground on head unit... if that dont work. add a ground wire to your rca's. but ground it in a different place other then where the head unit is grounded at.... or just re ground the head unit... most likely its your head unit ground.. i had that problem in my nissan 240sx... i re-grounded my head unit at the seat bolt that worked for me

Do u have pioneer head unit? could be a pico fuse issue. You may also want to try grounding everything to you battery. Ground loop isolators also help sometimes

But yeah it sounds like alt whine my man.
