Alright...if u dont remember me im the guy that was runnin two Jensen 12's who u all thought i was crazy...Well i hit a up sound off out here and the things hit 138.5, not bad for Jensen eh?. Anyways they were in the back of my Hatchback Dodge Shadow in a 3 cubic foot ported box so when i bought my new car and went to put the box in, it wouldnt fit. So heres the position im in. Build a new smaller box and put the jensens in my new car, or buy a new set of subs. Im lookin at 10's rite now.
As u can tell wit the wal mart subs, i am pretty cheap so im not lookin to spend more than 250 tax inc. for the 2 subs. So as of right now heres what im lookin it, u guys tell me whats best. Oh and im runnin a 600 watt Kenwood Amp as well.

10" Sony Xplod $94.99 each (ya i know its sony but there in my price range)
10" Kenwood Wave $64.99 each
10" Alpine type e (i can get two of these for $240 before tax)
10" MTX not sure of the model number $129.99 at Future Shop
10" Bolt Lighting audio (not a great sub but in my price range)

So thats what iv been eyeing so far...tell me what my best bet would be. P.S. im not looking to go with those $99.99 Pioneers from future shop

Paul Niwranski 11-27-2003 01:46 PM

My first choice would be the MTX, they're most likely 6000s.

Second would be the Sony

After that - pick your poison.

Derek Jerome 11-27-2003 02:01 PM

I agree mtx 6000's would be my pick too

have you checked out coustic ??

JL w0's are a nice entry level sub too

what about pioneer?

HyundaiGuyMTX 11-27-2003 03:09 PM

A buddy of mines got pioneers and im goin for sumtin different ya know...There really not much to choose from here in Halifax and im not into buying on the internet.

You should hit up the second hand scene! I managed to get 2 12" DVC RF HE2 for $350 with a box that I was able to sell for $75

So I really paid $275 for 2 12" subs that are very tight and in excellent shape. Buddy who had them before me had about 25% of the power these subs can take. The first time I hoocked them up to my amp (kicker600.4) they hit like they were brand new! it was and still is awesome!

See if you have a Rockford Fosgate dealer near by and you could most likely get 2 HE 10" Subs for around 130 + Tax each. Or maybe DWE 106 Dragster 10" which would compare to rockford on price but would give yuo a bit more headroom and better sound quality.

peace!!!

I picked up a pair of JL Audio 10W0-4s for $75 including tax.

Can you fit a single 15" sub in there ? That might work out better ...

HyundaiGuyMTX 11-27-2003 05:30 PM

I could fit two 15's in my trunk right now but my amp wont power them. I am also very interested in a Kicker Comp Vr or a 10" Concept. I only wish i had the money for some Memphis gear.

If we're talking cheap subs...

Memphis Power Ref's are very nice for the money
http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/P16_PR_Subw.htm

I bought an Infinity Reference 1230w off a dealer on eBay.ca for $70cdn including tax and shipping (It was rated 4/5 stars on condition or "great" condition, and it's nearly perfect). It's a very nice unit.
You can probably find a few 1030w's as well if you search for it

Interfire subs are pretty good priced too at genuinecanadianaudio (site is broken right now)

Other than that the ones you listed I find the Sony subs actually have pretty decent build quality and don't sound half bad...and I've heard good and bad things about the MTX 6000's

i also think you should go with a pair of jl audio 10w0-4's they take a relitivaly(sp) small box and you wont be dissappointed

just saw this in for sale.....had these two subs as my very first system years back and the pounded really well with a kenwood kac-716

HyundaiGuyMTX 11-27-2003 07:09 PM

Thanks for all the info on the JL's but in november nobody around here brings in any since its starter season...u guys tell me if these subs are any good. Since this guy lives relatively close i could pick these up from him no problem...just the subs tho...are they worth it? http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...&category=1255

Hardwrkr 11-27-2003 07:31 PM

He doesn't say what model the sub is except that it is 13.5" and it definitely isn't. Looks pretty used though also and he likely wants to package the works out.
I would recommend shopping used with your budget and the For Sale forum here is pretty safe. Just buy from someone with references. I would rather buy something of better quality used than purchase any of the subs you listed.
The JL w0's would be a good buy. They can be found very cheap and they get loud and sound good with very little power.
There was a JL dealer in Dartmouth a couple years ago. It might be worth crossing the bridge and taking a look around to hear for yourself.

juniorsfse 11-27-2003 08:43 PM

in the link i sent he is asking 200 and you said you were in the price range of 250...the extra 50 should cover the shipping and insurance on that

Edit: just a suggestion :D
