I'm gonna run 2 subs giving me 2ohms to an amp.
each sub can take 300w rms.

what power range of amps should I be looking at?
and what happens if I don't give them enough power? How much is too little power?

thanks guys

The only problem with too little power is that you might turn up the bass boost or the gains to try and make it louder, there by clipping your amp, sending distortion to the speaker and destroying it. If you tell us what kind of subs we might be better able to help you with an amp, not all subs are rated for the power they can handle.

I have 2 Alpine SWR-1221D Type R subs.
They say they handle 300w rms.

Thanks for the help man

so those are dual 2 ohm subs, not dual 4 like you were talking about before i assume? like i said before id look for an amp that will put out about 800 or so watts so you've got a bit of headroom and dont need to clip your amp.

Oziyak is right about the impedence of his subs, they'll show a 2ohm load to the amp.

That looks like a good amp for what you need, those specs are pretty underrated.

But i'm not really sure what you want to spend and more wattage is almost always better

Mitch, keep your eye out for an MTX 6500D. They pop up pretty frequently and will drive those Type R's perfectly. ~750rms at 2ohms and can be had pretty cheap.

isn't 700x rms too much for my 300w rms subs?
this is where I"m confused

having too much power is better than clipping a smaller amp, clipped signal will heat up those voice coils in a few seconds, might i suggest a jbl gto601.1, or a bpx500.1, depending on your budget.

so if I have these two type r's in parallel.. each rated at 300W... what would be the min and max power I could give them?
I obviously dont' want to damage them
thanks

see, that's where i was always a little confused too..
i was running 4 12" naturals and a jbl 1200.1 (doin' about 1400)
everything was solid......

swapped out to the 12001 bahns (1 per pair) and first run thru (gains way down) all i could smell was vc..600w to 400w subs
swapped up to the AW1200 subs and all is beauty again 600w to 700w subs (tho ya i could use more BOOMage still)..
