I picked up a Optima Red Top today..

Heads up to anyone in the market for a new battery, Walmart has red tops on sale for 150$.

I've heard nothing but good things about Optima, did I spend my money wisely? Also, I was wondering..how long can I expect to be able to leave my radio running without the car running before I cant crank it?

Thanks :)

How long your battery lasts depends on how much power your stereo uses. Keep an eye on the voltage gage and when it goes below 12v you should start up the car or else you might need a boost.
I've bought one of those portable boosters to deal with this problem. I've yet to use it though.

My car dosnt have one of those, can I buy one?

Well it is time for a little shame on you... The time to ask "is this the right battery?" is prior to purchase!

The red top is an excellent battery for day to day use as a car starting battery, it is also very good as a SPL burp battery. As a 'run my stereo with the engine off' battery it really isn't any better than a wet cell battery, the yellow top is better for that. You bought a great battery that can produce a lot of amps but maybe not the perfect battery for you

BTW unless your throwing more than 1000 watts RMS a single red top should be fine for about any reasonable use. A voltage gauge should be available from most car audio shops.

woa what timing i was just in walmart today looking at that redcap haha i think im going to buy one. about the voltage meter, how would i go about wiring one up, does it go directly to the battery? and what does a standard one cost?

Costco has the Red Tops for $140, not a sale price.

It all depends on trim model, and make of car.

i picked up one of those batterys a while back and didn't realise that i had a short in my car and it kept draining the battery till it was dead. and the battery just gave out and stoped working after about a month of dieing then be recharged.
