I think I blew my brand new Alpine Type X sub

I have a 12" Alpine Type X sub in a sealed box powered by a Alpine PDX-1.1000

I was playing some good hip hop songs on the way into work and when "Elevator" by Flowrider started, the sub stopped working. I thought the amp went into protect mode.

I get to work, check it out and my 4x20A fuses on the amp are blown... then I used my DMM on the sub and it shows 4ohm (It's a dual 4 ohm and just last week was showing 2ohm when I DMM'd it)

Could it be that it somehow had some over excursion and as a result blew one VC and then shorted the amp? I hope the amp is ok at least. Gain was at half, Sub level on the deck was at half, amp set to 1-8V input since I'm sending 4V to it and the crossover is set by the IMPRINT tune so not 100% sure what it is.

I bought this stuff new, but of course from E-bay and probably not an authorized vender I guess I'm screwed out of warranty.

Thoughts?

push on the subs cone and if you hear a scratchy sound it's done! Replace the fuses and pray u didn't nuke the amp!

If you want it set up correctly PM me and we can meet up! I'm in Whitby too!

You think it was in the way set it up

I did try and push on it and it was harder then it should be. I'll take the sub out of the box at lunch and DMM the VC's and try and get new fuses.

If you're in Whitby, there's a meet at the AMC plaza on Thursday nights 8pm rain or shine or snow, we hang out for a bit then a bunch of us head in to one of the places for food. All different types of cars with or without mods are there. Women friendly too as many of us bring the wives.

I'll PM you with my findings.

So normally in a situation like this, one would get a re-cone? I imagine not too many readily available recone kits for these.

Hmm, I wonder if anyone else has had problems with 'Elevator'.

The bass at the beginning of the song is killer! Its way too loud and prolonged!

All my stuff is Alpine, You're suggesting that all of Alpine is crap or the subs?

If I could use my PDX 1.1000 with another SUB then I would be happy with that. Doesn't look like too many reconing options, I called a couple of Alpine Dealers and they all said to buy a new woofer

I just got home so picked up some new fuses for the amp, I unplugged the sub from the amp and turned the system on and the amp turns on like normal, I think it's ok.

I am going out now to take the sub out of the box and DMM the coils. I have another sub that I am going to put in to ensure the amp still works.
