I'm new and looking for some advice
Hi,
i am new to car audio and i was wondering if this wold be a good combination. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10 085242&catid=# Dual 12" MTX thunder subs http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10 106646&catid= MTX Thunder 2 channel amp also i was wondering if it is possible to use a 1 channel amp for those subs? thank you for the help :) |
for the most part, STAY AWAY from and car audio at futureshop and bestbuy etc.
give your local small store the business, custom places always carry better brands than the big stores. i have owned and heard many MTX setups, to this day i have not heard any MTX product that i remotely liked. save you money and instead of getting two MTX 12's get one High quality sub. you will be much happier in the long run. personally i'd recommend you look at Image Dynamics IDQ 12" subs. they are extremely efficient, hit really hard, and are very musical. as for amps, anything kenwood or pioneer seems like it would be in your range. just get a monoblock with the appropriate RMS rating and you should be fine. (depending on your headunit, look into what other features the amp would have....crossovers, subsonic filter, passthrough etc.) you can find the IDQ's brand new for around $140 if you look ...two of those plus box and amp you can probably get it all under $500 taxes in. ....and it will be far superior to the MTX setup. |
futureshop has some pretty decent equipment, its just insanely overpriced. Some times they have some really good sales, but they are rare, especially this year.
Your links don't work, but i just checked the futureshop site and the only subs on sale are the infinity reference series for $100. For the same price you could get the kappa perfect series...if i remember correctly there is a guy selling a pair in the classified section. But there is nothing worthy of buying at futureshop right now. |
the only good thing there is the monster power rca's and the energy components. lol amp wize there the RF they use to have was the only good amps they had.. ohh and the infinity amps

well i listen to rap so i need clean bass at loud volumes...
as for small businesses, i know of a odyssey audio around my house i guess go there and ask them? I know how to hook em up and everything its just i don't know what works best with what. I guess they would know there right? i've also heard that JBL is the best, any arguments on that? |

Good luck man! |
jbl isn't the best, but the are definitely nicer than MTX ....like N130Gv2 said, they have their good lines like most others. I would consider their GTI series. look into brands like Audison/Hertz, Focal, JL, RE Audio, Image Dynamics, new Kenwood, Pioneer, or high end alpine.
definitely check out your local place. they will be much more knowledgable on the products as well. also, don't hesitate to buy used. just be smart about your purchase...you can generally tell how a person has treated their products by the quality of install, knowledge on it, etc. not always but alot of the time. buying used you will be able to get FAR superior equipment than buying brand new. ps. there is a 15" JBL GTI w/ box for sale on here for $260. that one sub would destroy those MTX's lol, i'd give that a serious look if you want something for rap that will pound hard low and still sound decent. thats JBL's highest model sub you can buy. |
o i have another question...
can i just hook up an amp, a sub, and an aftermarket stereo and keep the stock speakers? cause i just bought a car and i don't have enough for the speakers right now. |
Ya, you can keep your factory speakers for now. Hopefully your new deck will have a HPF (high pass filter) to help stop the bass frequencies from getting to them.
