Im putting an aftermarket deck in a 97 monte carlo tomorrow.
Do I need to know anything special before I do? Its got this 8 speaker system in it..which is going to be taken out anyways. I'm also putting new front and rear speakers in it so the car will only have 4 after.
I was just wondering if there were more than 4 channels. I'm trying to ask if the fronts are all chained together, or if they each have their own channel. Same with the back. Thanks. |
this car might have a factory amp. just get the harness adapter for the deck to be able to plug into the factory harness.
|
My car had the 8 speaker system. The deck has 4 twisted pair line outs, going to an amp with crossovers. front, rear, left, right, high, low. 2+2 x 2 = 8.
Its all here sitting in a box in the garage if anybody wants it. The 97 should be pretty straight forward on power, but you'll need to run new spealer wire. |
He wants to put in 4 new speakers and run it off the deck for now (eventually they are going to be powered off a new amp), that means I need to run all new speaker wire?
Also, do I 100% need this adaptor thing..I'm guessing they will have it at bestbuy? |
If you want to run the factory speakers off your deck for the time being, the harness would be a big help!

Im doing it right now but were doing the full install. Anyone know where I can run a power wire through the firewall without drilling a hole.

Why are you afraid of drilling a new hole? I try to do it 4-5 times a week according to my gf. I know the monte/luminas are tight but your pretty much gonna have to, i put off my amp install a bit cause it just looked impossible under the hood to get a wire thru lol fukin 3.4l gms are such a treat to work on:mad: |

Down under the dash, passenger side, all the original wiring goes thru a big rubber block, filled with epoxy for every chassis wire there is. There is lots of room to drill a 1/2 inch hole in the rubber block. |
Where can I buy a grommet to go with it? thanks.
